Kennedy acknowledged how his candidacy has caused “disappointment” among some members of his family, telling Maher that Biden is a “long-term friend of the family” and that several relatives work for his administration.
“I come from a family where we were taught to argue and debate with each other. My father would organize debates at the dinner table almost every night. He taught us with passion, with good information, Encouraged to debate with reason. “We love each other even when we disagree,” Kennedy said.

The HBO host then drew attention to Kennedy’s polling, which significantly influenced his candidacy. According to an average of RealClearPolitics polls, Kennedy had about 17% support in November. Today that average is below 10%.

He also told Maher that he was ahead of Biden and Trump among independent candidates.

Maher pushed back, saying, “You’re only on the ballot in three states.”
“Me?” Kennedy replied. “Yes, but that’s a different question.
“Well, that’s one way, you have to be on the ballot!” Maher shouted.
“I’m going on the ballot,” Kennedy insisted.
“You will be on the ballot in all states?” Maher asked.
“I can guarantee you I’ll be on the ballot in every state very soon,” Kennedy said. “But at the same time, every poll that’s been taken has shown that my popularity, my favorability rating is far ahead of both President Trump and President Biden. In fact, higher than any other political failure in this country.”
“I am the alternative,” he concluded.

Kennedy continued, “Many times, liberal people, who I know are friends, tell me that you need to get Biden out of the race because otherwise President Trump is going to win.
