Former ESPN personality takes aim at Trump after Tyreek Hill’s arrest


Jemele Hill, a former ESPN personality and current contributing writer to The Atlantic, went after the Miami Dolphins wide receiver, hinting at a connection to Donald Trump. Detention of Tyreek Hill On Sunday.

“Just a reminder that Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is a huge supporter of Donald Trump — the same Trump who supports giving all police immunity from prosecution,” Hill wrote. “Do whatever you want.”

Ross hosted a Trump fundraiser in 2019, which prompted a backlash from some of the companies he had invested in, such as Equinox and SoulCycle.

Ross also founded the RISE Program, a “national nonprofit organization that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, promote social justice, and improve racial relations,” according to its website. He left the board in 2022 and was named an emeritus board member.

In April, Trump promised Trump promised to “restore law and order” and to “compensate” and “protect” law enforcement, calling for police officers to be given protective gear following the shooting death of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller.

At the National Association of Black Journalists convention in July, Trump was asked again about his stance on the case of Sonya Macy, who was killed during an incident with officers in Illinois.

He said he would help a person who had “made an innocent mistake,” Fox 32 Chicago,

“If I felt or a group of people felt that someone was being unfairly prosecuted because that person did something good, maybe committed a crime, or made a mistake, an innocent mistake … then I would want to help that person.

“Sometimes you have less than a second to make a life and death decision and sometimes very bad decisions are made. They’re not made from a bad perspective, they’re made from a ‘they made a mistake’ perspective.”

There was no indication that there was any plan involving Trump and Ross while Tyreek Hill was in custody.

The South Florida Police Benevolent Association defended the officers involved in the incident. Police union president Steadman Stahl said Hill was taken into custody “for the safety of the officer, as he was driving in such a manner that he was putting himself and others in great danger.”

“Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill did not immediately cooperate with the officers on scene, per policy and for his immediate safety, Mr. Hill was placed in handcuffs,” the statement said. “Mr. Hill still did not cooperate, he refused to get on the ground and therefore was taken to the ground.”

Stahl said Hill was issued two traffic violation notices and that those who have had contact with police officers were reminded to “obey legitimate police commanders first and complain later.”

He added: “While we are confident in the actions taken to restrain Mr Hill, as with any investigation we will await all of the facts to emerge, as well as Mr Hill’s explanation for his actions that led to this unfortunate incident.”

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, described the incident as “completely unacceptable”. Statement provided to Fox News Digital,

“What happened to Tyreek at the stadium today is completely unacceptable,” he said. “Tyreek should not have been treated this way by the police. Tyreek’s legal team will pursue this matter on Tyreek’s behalf and I’m sure they will consider taking legal action.”

The wide receiver said he had “no idea” why police officers handcuffed him.

“I wasn’t abusive because my mom didn’t raise me that way,” Hill said. “I didn’t abuse. I didn’t do anything like that. Like I said, I’m still trying to figure it out, man.”

Hill said he wonders what would have happened if he weren’t an NFL player.

“I don’t want to bring race into it, but sometimes it gets a little unsettling when you do,” he said. “What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill? God only knows what that guy or his teammates would do. I was just making sure I was doing what my uncle always told me to do whenever you’re in a situation like that, ‘Just listen, put your hands on the steering wheel and just listen.'”
