actress shailene woodley defended sharing a statement from former First Lady Melania Trump following the assassination attempt against former President Trump, despite Getting Feedback,
“I posted the letter because I thought it was a beautiful message of human compassion, and then I forgot about it because I have a life and I don’t live by what social media says,” Woodley tells Bustle. A new interview,
The actress, perhaps best known for starring in the “Divergent” film trilogy and the HBO series “Big Little Lies,” is an outspoken climate activist who was a supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.
Woodley said she was troubled by the calls for violence by “many” in her liberal circles following the attempted assassination of the former president at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.
“Honestly, I read it and I thought, ‘This is so beautiful.’ I was in a group of people that I respect very much — friends, colleagues, progressives, very intelligent thinkers, active people — and many of them were saying, ‘He missed! The killer missed! Maybe it was a conspiracy. Maybe it was a conspiracy. there was a conspiracy‘I was thinking, ‘Have we forgotten that two people lost their lives?’ Two people died. It’s sad. It’s devastating. I couldn’t understand how people were talking about death with such passion,’ the liberal actress explained.
The statement said In this message shared by Mrs Trump on July 14, she thanked the Secret Service agents and law enforcement agencies who risked their lives to protect Trump and expressed her condolences to the families of the victims. She also called for unity.
“A monster who personified my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to overshadow Donald’s passions – his laughter, simplicity, love of music and inspiration. The core aspects of my husband’s life – his human side – were buried beneath the political machine. Donald, a generous and caring man, was with me through the best and worst of times,” the statement said.
It further states, “We must not forget that differing opinions, policy and political games are inferior to love. Our personal, structural and life commitment – even to death – is at grave risk. Political concepts are simple compared to what we humans are.”

Woodley said she only shared the first page of the statement on Instagram Stories, which highlighted Trump’s humanity, after which it became “more political.”
The actress was surprised to know that what her friend had posted had attracted media attention and sparked reactions on social media.

Woodley, who has partnered with environmental organizations, said her political beliefs are “pretty well known.”
He described the rush to judge and “cancel” people on social media as a “dangerous thing”.
