Vice President Kamala Harris She calls herself a “daughter of Oakland, California”.

She has also been eager to demonstrate her connection to the average American. And, I was raised to believe that everybody deserves respect,” she said in an interview with ABC.

What does Oakland’s daughter — who was born in the troubled city — say? but growing up in Berkeley — It is never mentioned that there is no particular dignity in being beaten, robbed, or killed.

What has Harris done to help Oakland? At best, he has ignored the plight of residents; at worst, he has endangered them.

During COVID-19, Americans have seen a wave of horrific attacks on the country’s Asian population, with the most ruthless and hateful violence concentrated in urban areas like Oakland.

Over and over again, video footage showed that the perpetrators were Black. Too often, the victims were vulnerable elderly immigrants. As the first Black and Asian vice president, Harris was in a unique position to lead on this issue. She could lead a conversation between Black and Asian communities to facilitate reconciliation and understanding.

As leaders like former President Barack Obama condemned the hateful attacks against Asian Americans without paying attention to the explicit racial context, she could have addressed Black communities and called for a halt to the spread of violence against Asians, particularly by Black people.

In fact, a national coalition of Asian-American organizations had urged the White House to appoint Harris, the former California Attorney General, to work with local and state law enforcement agencies to strengthen police protections for Asian Americans in their communities.

Harris did none of the above.

Instead, he condemned former President Donald Trump for the alleged racist attack. Never mind that violence against Asians by blacks was a regular occurrence both before and after Trump’s tenure in the White House, especially in California’s Bay Area. Unable to blame them today, the first Asian-American vice president simply ignores the ongoing heinous attacks.

Meanwhile, Black, brown and Americans of all other colors also have reasons to be afraid.

In Oakland last year, the local NAACP branch called on elected leaders to declare a state of emergency because of the city’s “intolerable public safety crisis.”

“African Americans are disproportionately affected by crime in East Oakland and other parts of the city,” said NAACP Oakland. “Failed leadership, including a movement to defund the police … and the prevalence of anti-police rhetoric, have created a heyday for Oakland’s criminals. If there are no consequences for committing crime in Oakland, crime will continue to rise.”

Where does Oakland’s proud daughter stand?

He advocated defunding the police. In the Minneapolis riots that followed the death of George Floyd in May 2020, he promoted a bail fund for rioters. Although he has denied, His social media posts Still on X, formerly known as Twitter. He also claimed the need to “reimagine public safety”, which again meant defunding the police, and supported then-Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s decision to cut police funding by $150 million.

What has Harris done to help Oakland? At best, he has ignored the plight of residents; at worst, he has endangered them.

Because of the policies pursued by Oakland’s most famous daughter, the city’s residents are facing fewer police officers, more shootings, more crime, and less safety.

Oakland residents have launched a campaign — led by the black mother of a murder victim and a Chinese-American public safety advocate — to recall District Attorney Pamela Price of Alameda County, which includes Oakland. Price, who envisions policing in ways similar to those preferred by Harris, has been denounced by residents as caring more about criminals than victims. Her office has been accused of, among other things, working in secret to secure parole for killers.

If she becomes president, she will fail all Americans just as she has failed the residents of Oakland.
