The demand for loyalty
Many Democrats reacted overnight to the news that the Teamsters, General President Sean O’Briendecided not to continue to endorse the president.
“Unfortunately, none of the major candidates have been able to make a serious commitment to our union to ensure that the interests of working people are always put ahead of those of big business,” O’Brien said in a statement.
Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Massachusetts, who like O’Brien is from the Boston area, called former President Trump “the most anti-labor president ever.”
“It’s clear these workers are misinformed or unaware of Trump’s record on labor,” McGovern said. The Washington Times“Their allegiance is not to working people.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., a former House speaker, called the Teamsters’ decision “disappointing.”
The Teamsters have not endorsed a candidate since the 1996 contest between former President Clinton and Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan. Their last GOP endorsement was for former President George H.W. Bush in 1988 over then-Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis.….Read More
