iPhone 16: First Look |

It’s that time of the year again when the New Year arrives. iPhones Come on, and this year’s portfolio is the same as last year’s one but two – two regular iPhones and two Pros. What we have is this one iphone 16 (The Plus is a regular iPhone, so it’ll be included as well.) We’ve had about 24 hours with the iPhone 16 in our hands, and we have some initial thoughts on it.
For starters, there might not be much new to see in the iPhone 16 – it’s pretty much the same as the iPhone 15, except for the rear cameras – they’re now stacked vertically on a pill-shaped island and the flash sits flush on the back. Apple He said this arrangement is better for recording spatial videos.

The refresh also includes some new colours, and these shades are quite bright and feel cheerful. Day 1 reports show that Ultramarine is becoming a crowd favourite, Teal is also looking great, and even Pink (which we have) is a beautiful looking shade.
Speaking of the screen, it’s 6.1 inches (the Plus has a 6.7-inch screen), has dynamic islands, and still runs at 60Hz. However, it’s brighter than before and even dimmable – according to Apple it gets up to 2,000 nits bright and dims down to 1 nit.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 together

When many thought Apple was going to remove the button on iPhones, Apple surprised us by putting a new button on this year’s iPhones. The entire iPhone 16 lineup, whether they are Pro or not, has a new button below the volume buttons, called Camera ControlHowever, it is much more than a button.
Basically, the camera control is a shutter button. You press it and the camera app opens, and when you press it again, it takes a picture. However, it’s not that simple.
You can combine camera control with the trackpad on a MacBook. It’s a capacitive touch button – you can swipe on it and tap on it – just like the MacBook’s trackpad.
Double-tapping the button will give you a few options, such as exposure, zoom, depth and camera selection, style and tone (more on this a bit later). Swiping on it will zoom in/out, set exposure, switch between lenses and more. But, again, it’s not as easy as it sounds. There’s a bit of a learning curve here.

This is the camera control and action buttons in action

One thing you can easily use is the action button. Yes, it’s now available on the standard iPhone as well. Hail the mute switch! Though the simplicity of the mute switch is missed, Action Button It seems to be a nice clicky mute switch and can do a lot more – there’s even an option to set a shortcut.
Even though the cameras have a new look, they are almost the same – 48MP primary and 12MP ultra-wide. However, the ultra-wide has a cool trick: it can finally shoot macro. So, in Apple’s words, you “get four lenses in your pocket”, as the main camera can capture cropped-in 2x shots – i.e. .5x, 1x, 2x and macro.
Apple promises that both cameras will work better than before, and they do seem to be slightly better.

Photographic Style is the most control you've ever had over the iPhone camera

Photographic Styles have gotten a big update. They’re not just filters, as Apple is promising, and from the brief time we tried the 16’s camera, they’re more than just filters. They let you adjust skin tone, brightness and contrast. Don’t mistake it for the Pro mode you get on Android, but it’s the most control you’ve ever had on an iPhone’s camera.
There is no upgrade over the regular iPhones in terms of video recording, but they do get audio mixes. This allows the sound volume in the video to be adjusted and users can choose from three options: In-Frame, Studio, and Cinematic. I am curious and excited to try this out.
iPhone 16 is the first iPhone designed for Apple Intelligence“Or should we say this will be the first vanilla iPhone, since last year’s Pro model got AI features, but not the vanilla 15s.
There’s a new chip inside the new iPhone 16 – the A18, which Apple says is 30 percent faster than the two-year-old A16 that powers the vanilla iPhone 15, and should also improve battery life. That’s all fine, but this chip will make the biggest difference when Apple rolls out the Intelligent Interface.

The home screen is a mess right now

Apple Intelligence is Apple’s group of AI features, which includes some AI-powered tools, such as those that will help you write, draw pictures, even clean them, and a smarter Siri. The initial version of Apple Intelligence is expected to arrive next month, i.e. in October, but the Siri glow-up may not come before next year.
It comes with iOS 18 Out-of-the-box, so you can try out all the customizations.
In addition, the new iPhones charge faster than ever. Wired charging speeds have been increased to 45W and wireless charging is limited to 25W.
So, the iPhone 16 has a new design, vibrant colors, and two new buttons – the action button and the camera control – all of which differentiate it from the vanilla iPhones of the last few years. Then, you get the new iPhone A18 chip This will enable Apple intelligence, and Apple is banking heavily on it. But, is all this worth the upgrade? Maybe and maybe not — we have listed everything new we found with the iPhone 16 in this short time. Now, it’s up to you to brainstorm, but if you’re still undecided, wait till our full review comes out.
Don’t worry, we’ll solve this dilemma as well – whether to get a Pro or not, because this year’s regular iPhones are closer to a Pro than ever before.
