Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto reveals the crucial moment that decided the India vs Bangladesh series

Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto expressed concern after his team’s defeat against India in Kanpur recently and stressed the need for better batting performances. “We didn’t bat well in both the Tests. We need to bat well in these conditions. If you look at our batsmen, we played 30-40 balls and got out,” Shanto said in the post-match presentation. He stressed the importance of scoring big innings in Test matches, saying, “It is important in a Test match, when the batsmen come in, you should focus on scoring big runs.”

Shanto acknowledged the exceptional batting performances of India’s Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, which played a crucial role in their victory. “The way Ashwin and Jaddu batted at that time – they batted really well,” he said.

He highlighted the need for Bangladesh’s bowling unit to take advantage of crucial moments and take wickets in their favour.

“As a bowling unit we need to look at those moments to see how we can get wickets. That partnership cost us that match,” Shanto said.

Despite the defeat, Shanto found positives in the individual performance. He praised Mominul Haq’s batting in the second innings and expressed hope that it would benefit the team in future matches.

He said, “The way Mominul batted in this innings will help us moving forward.” Apart from this, he also praised the brilliant performance of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and his bowling in both the innings. Shanto concluded, “And the way Miraz bowled in both innings – he bowled really well.”

Shanto’s views stress the need for better consistency and capitalizing on key moments as Bangladesh aim to bounce back in future Test matches.

Talking about the match, Indian opener Yashvi Jaiswal’s extraordinary half-century in the second innings helped the hosts to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Bangladesh at Green Park on Tuesday. Jaiswal won the Man of the Match award for his contributions with the bat in both innings.

The second session on the fifth day of the Kanpur Test started with Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal taking the field as the team needed only 95 runs to win.

When the team’s score was 18, Rohit returned to the pavilion after scoring only eight runs. After the captain was out, Shubman Gill came to bat with Jaiswal in the middle. Both the batsmen were able to add only 16 runs to the total when Gill was sent back to the dressing room after scoring just six runs when the team’s score was 34.

After Gill’s departure, Virat Kohli came to bat with Jaiswal.

The Rohit Sharma-led side touched the 50-run mark in the 7th over as Kohli hit a four on the last ball bowled by Mehdi Hasan Miraz.

Jaiswal scored his second half-century of the match. He was sent back after scoring 51 runs in 45 balls with the help of eight fours and one six.
