Friends who traveled more than three hours to see Trump said their families were worried about him coming to the rally, but described how they felt safe with the tight security.
“Our families weren’t too excited about us coming today,” Jody Cavalieri said. “But we see the shooters, police everywhereAnd the camaraderie, and it’s great.”
“People are coming from all over the country, it’s an amazing feeling,” Dena Diebold said.
The Secret Service has increased security since the first Butler rally in July — including on the rooftop of a nearby warehouse, where investigators say 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on July 13.
The miscreants fired eight rounds, which passed Trump’s ear, killing Corey Comparat, a 50-year-old firefighter and father of two daughters, and injuring two others.
U.S. Secret Service (USS) spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement to Fox News Digital that Trump was receiving “enhanced” security during the second Butler rally.
“Since the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Trump, the U.S. Secret Service has made sweeping changes and enhancements to our communications capabilities, resources, and protective operations,” he said. “Today, the former president is under tight security, and we take our responsibility to ensure his safety very seriously.”
Guglielmi said the USSS is “coordinating closely” with Pennsylvania State Police as well as local law enforcement.
“We are also leveraging other federal security resources to expand personnel and technology,” he said. “To maintain the integrity of our protective operations, we cannot go into specifics regarding security enhancements. Area residents can expect to experience traffic delays and an increased presence of state, local and federal law enforcement as part of our efforts.” There is hope.”
