Police allege that after hiding in bushes, he bound the children’s wrists and raped the girl. They then say he stole their cellphones and told them to sit quietly while he fled. At his arraignment on Wednesday, prosecutors revealed the children had also been gagged and said they had found a water bottle at the scene that tested positive for Inga-Landi’s DNA.

“This attack on two children in broad daylight in a city park strikes at the very core of our society,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.
According to the criminal complaint, the children did not know their attacker, and he told them to “be quiet” before tying them up and stuffing cloth in their mouths.
The document also states that Inga-Landi admitted to the attacks in an interview with detectives. She reportedly told police that she gagged one child with a handkerchief and another with a piece of cloth, threatened them with a knife, and raped the girl.
The shocking attack agitated New Yorkers, who began searching for Inga-Landi immediately after the incident. The NYPD obtained and released surveillance images showing his face.

“Everybody knew who we were looking for,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney. “We were getting tips telling us the name of the criminal. They knew who he was. They had seen him on the street.”
“We saw on the bodycam video that there were at least 10 neighbors trying to do the right thing,” Kenny said.
“The rapist came to the store, and we’re usually here, and we saw him, so my friend attacked him with a girl,” a neighborhood resident named Forge told Fox News Digital. “They did what they had to do. They stopped him, but he hid under a car.”
He said that the police arrived after a few minutes.

“I’ve seen him a couple of times — he comes to this store to buy stuff,” Flores told the newspaper, speaking outside the deli from which he was removed. “I waited for him. I waited all day to see if he would come. He came at night.”

Police said 10 residents helped detain him until Inga-Landi arrived. Two others involved in the heroic act were Isabel Calzado, 67, and Daniel Ramos.
Kenny said the suspect suffered minor injuries when he tried to fight off good-natured bystanders.

According to authorities, he entered the US illegally through Eagle Pass, Texas, in 2021. He was apprehended and released, but DNA collected at the time matched the water bottle, prosecutors said.
From then until his arrest this week, he had several previous cases of minor offences registered against him, including not paying metro fare and drinking alcohol in a public place, officials said.

He was also involved in a domestic violence incident in which no charges were filed, and he had an unspecified arrest in TexasKatz told reporters after Wednesday’s hearing that there was an immigration warrant out against him at the time of his arrest.
Inga-Landi faces multiple charges including rape, kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted, he could face 25 years to life in prison.
He did not enter any plea during his arraignment on Wednesday. The judge ordered him remanded without bail.
