A woman attempting to return home from her holiday in Italy has revealed how an airline compensated her after her flight was overbooked – prompting social media users to express their opinions.

Susan Berry is a 36-year-old freelance fashion photographer From Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Who recently spent two months in Italy for work.

Berry said she was able to spend three extra nights in Naples, Italy, after his flights were completely full.

“I got to the airport and the American Airlines manager said, ‘Hey, we’re overbooked (and) we’re looking for volunteers to stay. You’ll get $1,200 in vouchers, four-star hotel, all meals,’ and before he could even finish, I said, ‘I’ll do it,'” she said of the credit she received for her first overbooked flight.

Berry said although she was excited to return home, she was “not ready to turn down a $1,200 travel voucher for her next adventure.”

Berry said he and eight other passengers — who had to stay an extra night — were taken to a hotel outside Naples.

“Everyone else was forced to stay, and so I was the only one who was excited and trying to rally the troops,” she said.

Berry decided to document her experience in TikTok videos, one of which has been viewed more than 1.4 million times. She named the experience “Camp American Airlines” — she said it felt like she was at a day camp with strangers.

She said the hotel the airline put her up in was better than the one she was staying in. in Italy, And the free three-course dinner at the hotel made her “thrilled” to stay there an extra day.

Berry said she was happy to continue with her vacation when she learned the airline was offering a $1,200 voucher to stay overnight again.

She said, “At this point, I realised… I think they were overbooked for a while and I heard through rumours that it was, so then I started thinking… I could do this forever – a few days and get some good vouchers.”

American Airlines’ “Conditions of Carriage,” which an airline representative emailed to Fox News Digital, states, “We will request that passengers who voluntarily agree to give up their seats to relinquish their seats, and in return will be compensated in an amount and form at American Airlines’ sole discretion.”

The terms further state, “When you voluntarily give up your confirmed seat on a flight, we will compensate you in a certain amount and in a form that we deem appropriate.” These terms are also listed on the American Airlines website.

Berry said after the second night hotel, She arrived at the airport for the third time – and the staff there couldn’t stop themselves from laughing.

“By that time, I had become the leader of the group,” she said.

Berry volunteered to stay there and collected a $1,150 voucher for the third night – but his luck ran out on the fourth day.

“Honestly, I’m pretty sure American Airlines had a clue what I was going to do because it happened on TikTok,” Berry said of her now-viral video.

Berry said that at the end of the trip, he received a travel credit of $3,550 from the airline.

When asked if she would do it again, Berry said, “I would definitely do it again.”

Berry said she was in no rush to be home by a certain date, so she felt like she was doing a good job for someone who needed to be home by a certain time.
