At the end of his presidency, Ronald Reagan The standard round of exit interviews with NBC’s Tom Brokaw was taking place. During the recording, Brokaw asked Reagan a very brilliant question, i.e., was there anything about Reagan’s Hollywood days that helped him become a better president?

Gipper thought for a moment and eventually replied, “I don’t know how you can do this job and not be an actor.” There was a lot of wisdom in what Reagan said.

Shakespeare was right“All the world’s a stage.” All the great leaders of the world knew about presentation. Think about it.

Trump raised his fist

Julius Caesar in his finest armour. Napoleon insisted on making his and his men’s uniforms attractive. george washington He understood that how one looked was a part of leadership. He never went before his men without being dressed in the finest clothes, his horse was clean, and the leather was well cared for. He rarely spoke in public, which added to his aura. When he went to the Constitutional Convention, he always wore his finest uniform. The same was true with Robert E. Lee. When he went to surrender to General US Grant, the Confederate leader wore his finest uniform.

Reagan’s enduring message for Republicans in the 2024 campaign

Sun Tzu once said that “victorious warriors first conquer and then go into battle.” By this he meant that victors gain a psychological advantage before confronting the enemy. And presentation is a big part of that advantage.

Dressing in character is also a part of leadership. Abraham Lincoln He was no slave to fashion, but the old woodcutter knew his ruffled style worked for him. It was what the citizens wanted. It was a part of his authenticity.

The internet is full of stories about leadership and presentation, which is lost among intellectuals today. Donald Trump has his own style, and that is what is important. His rallies are very entertaining and informative. He attracts attention. He obviously has fun on stage.

In this way, Trump may be the most exciting president in modern history. Everything from his hairstyles to his ubiquitous red hat to his rallies is unique. None of this is accidental; Trump has always understood the importance of looking like a leader as well as just being a leader. Donald Trump in a Speedo wouldn’t work for him. JFK in a swimsuit would work for him. In fact, JFK was one of those lucky men whose clothes always looked “leaderly.” Masculine. In control.

Lincoln’s advice for success still holds true today

Surely there is no moment like this The unraveling of Trump’s leadership Even more profoundly, when, just moments after his assassination attempt, he stood before the audience, raised his fists in the air, and shouted in challenge, “Fight!”

Compare this to her current far-left opponent. There is nothing iconic or memorable about Kamala Harris’ campaign. Her campaign symbol is arguably the most dull ever imagined, static white letters on a plain blue field.

Harris has gone out of her way to coin phrases like “coconut army” and “baby.” They’ve even gone so far as to stick Harris’ campaign logo on camouflage hats in an attempt to emulate the image of rural Americans and call it a day’s work. Just a few days ago, she tried to speak in a Southern accent, which, of course, backfired. Her delivery sounds so forced, so contrived. Fake.

The American people want authenticity, and they spot fake people. Kamala Harris, a California coastal aristocrat, is not authentic in a camouflage hat. It didn’t work when then-presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren Tried Livestreaming with a beer. It didn’t work when Barack Obama had the White House release photos of him at a gun range. And it certainly didn’t work when Michael Dukakis rode in a tank in 1988.

Socialist Tim Walz is even worse. He screams fraud! The cognitive dissonance between the pretensions of mainstream America and the ideology of the far-right left-wing elite makes him inauthentic to millions of Americans. He’s not even good enough to be called a cliché. He’s worse than that.

Democrats also agree that no president in modern history has created a more iconic look than Ronald Reagan. From his California ranch to his cowboy boots and his famous Stetson hat, Reagan looked and felt exactly what a conservative should be. Bold, classic, individualistic and quintessentially American.

For this and thousands of other reasons, Reagan is now considered As one of our four greatest presidents. And Biden? People have already forgotten him and his presidency. To coin a phrase, he will be relegated to the dustbin of history, where all miserable presidents belong. His lack of presentation and leadership has put him on the list of failed presidents.

And Shakespeare was right: “Drama is everything!”
