Last year, California Governor Gavin Newsom He was thrust onto the national political stage when people were wondering if he would run for president. Now, Newsom is nowhere to be seen outside of California. The reasons for this are simple, and they include the failed state of California.

In 2023, Gavin Newsom established himself well among Democrats. Many thought he was running for president. He challenged Republicans on a number of issues such as climate, abortion, and the economy. Newsom was repeatedly seen on national TV and even presented himself as the opposition Florida Governor Ron DeSantiswho was actually contesting for the presidency.

However, Newsom has disappeared from the national stage — even though some are still speculating that he should be replaced by Biden at the convention. Here are five reasons why he has disappeared — and should not be brought back.

Newsom’s failed debate with DeSantis

Newsom’s pinnacle on the national stage was his debate with Ron DeSantis. Contrary to what many said, that debate did not go well for Newsom. It was the first time the country had access to Newsom without a script in a long time.

Crisis in California: Amid rising numbers of migrants, border mayor warns US could be hit by Hamas-like attack

As the man who won the US Senate post-debate poll Kamala Harris In 2016, I believe any candidate should do three things in any major debate. They should answer questions, they should suggest solutions, and they should be liked.

Newsom did none of those things. He was unlikable. His own wife escorted him off the stage after Newsom agreed to go ahead with the debate. Newsom offered few solutions and chose to attack DeSantis more than answer questions.

Since that debate, Newsom has virtually disappeared from the national stage.

Newsom needed to be distracted from Biden’s campaign

For a while, Democrats were helped by the fact that Newsom was taking on Republicans. Newsom was adept at attacking Republicans when he didn’t have to answer questions about his record.

Less than a week after that debate, a CBS Sacramento affiliate ran the headline: “Who Contributed to California’s Record $68 Billion Budget Deficit?” The deficit has gotten “progressively” worse The years since then have required massive spending cuts — which have never been a calling card for Democrats running for president.

Of course, crime is out of control in California. Here are some headlines:

“ABC News reporter becomes victim of car ‘vandalism and robbery’ in Oakland, feels ‘sorrow for people who do this’ – Violent crime, robbery and vehicle theft increased by more than 20% in Oakland in 2023.”

Now Newsom is proposing this Reduction in spending on public safety due to losses.

The homelessness problem is also out of control. So is Newsom’s wasteful spending on the problem. Two recent headlines illustrate the story: “California failed to track its homelessness spending or results, a new audit says” and “California spent $24 billion on homelessness but the problem has not improved in many cities: auditor’s report,
