A cat has finally been reunited with its owner – 12 years after it disappeared from the family home.

The cat, named Artie, went missing from the home of 29-year-old Theo-Will McKenna. After the family In 2012 he moved from Blacon in Chester to Connah’s Quay in Flintshire, Wales, according to British news service S.W.N.S.

The cat’s owner, McKenna, who was just 17 at the time, spent six months looking for Artie whenever possible — yet eventually the family gave up hope that their beloved cat would be found.

But just three weeks ago, Arty Cat It was discovered after spending four days in a garden near where the family lived in Connah’s Quay.

“I couldn’t take him with me when I moved out, and my (mother) moved to Connah’s Quay with him, my brother and our other pets,” S.W.N.S. reported. “I was in college in the area, so I would come back to visit once a week or so.”

“He hasn’t come back in the last few days – and he’s never done that before. He used to come back every night.”

“I immediately went out to look for him. I roamed around the area with a bag full of food items, but I couldn’t find anything,” McKenna said.

Fox News Digital has reached out to McKenna for additional information and comment.

“I kept an eye on him whenever I went to that area but there was no sign of him.”

He also said that about six months after the cat went missing, “I had given up hope. I kept an eye on it whenever I went to that area, but there was no trace of it.”

At that point, “I got to the point where I thought either, God forbid, something had happened to him, or somebody else had taken him.”

“It took me a second to recognise him because he looked really tired and thin.”

McKenna said North Clyde Animal Rescue reported that “he appeared in someone’s garden near where my (mother) lived in Connah’s Quay. He appeared in their garden and stayed there for four days. He didn’t move at all, just stayed there.”

When the vet’s office scanned the cat’s microchip, it found that “the chip was still registered in McKenna’s mother’s name at the family’s old Blakeney address.”

“When they found out my (mother) didn’t live there anymore, they contacted NCAR and got her back from the vet,” McKenna said.

“I thought there was no way it could be this cat. It had been 12 years – he went missing when I was 17. I thought no cat could survive 12 years on the street.” (SWNS)

When McKenna picked Artie up, she took him to her current apartment — where the cat is now getting used to living with McKenna’s other cat, SWNS reports.

“We’re still in a testing period,” McKenna said, but he is completely fine. He growls really loudly whenever I go near him… My other cat is a little wary, but we are taking the initial steps and getting him used to her scent. It’s a slow process, but I’m absolutely determined that he will stay with me.”

“I think people must have been looking after him over the years – whether it was providing him with food, or keeping him, because I don’t think he would have survived for 12 years without community kindness.” (SWNS)

The cat is now 16 years old — and will require ongoing medical care, with his medication costing £50, or about US$64, per month, SWNS said.

McKenna has started an online fundraising campaign to help with the cat’s medical expenses.
