Colombia backs down as Trump blames Biden for anti-Semitic protests

college campuses are New southern border.

The way so many university presidents have capitulated to a small group of Israel-hating protesters is the hottest issue in America.

This, without question, signals a breakdown of the system in this country, especially in our elite institutions that were once worthy of respect and are now paragons of cowardice.

Situation is changing with hundreds of arrests NYU to YaleFrom USC to the University of Texas – just like most of the public is fed up with students and outside agitators crippling one campus after another.

At Columbia University, the epicenter of the earthquake, a day of arrests 10 days ago followed endless negotiations with protesters — including some faculty members — who effectively shut down the campus, with the school switching to hybrid classes. And most of the Jewish students fled. Place. That impasse continued till yesterday.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, knowing he had been mistreated, created a moment by meeting with Jewish students at Columbia and then addressing the media crowd, demanding the resignation of school leader Minouche Shafik. President Biden should have gone there first.

The White House continues to say that Biden has condemned Anti-Semitism on campus, But not in a meaningful way; These are mostly statements of a Deputy Press Secretary. The only time the President has said anything on camera was in response to a question asked by a reporter with a few sentences that were difficult to hear.

I understand this is politics Israel-Hamas war Biden has been treacherous, but he knows how to get in front of the cameras when he wants to, such as claiming victory for the foreign aid bills for Israel and Ukraine (with significant help from Speaker Johnson).

Biden could get a chance to have Sister Souljah for his candidacy. During the 1992 campaign, the activist said after the LA riots: “If black people kill black people every day, why not take a week and kill white people?”

Bill Clinton, speaking to Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Coalition, condemned him: “If you took the words ‘white’ and ‘black,’ and you reversed them, you might think David Duke was giving that speech. “

(Some Democratic lawmakers visited Colombia before Johnson arrived and condemned the protesters.)

Last January, Khimani James, a Columbia student and protest leader, met with university officials and was captured on video saying: “Zionists, like Nazis and white supremacists, do not deserve to live.” “And so, yes, I feel very, very comfortable telling those people to die.”

The anti-Trump movement’s secret Zoom call gave them their aiming ammo

What did the university do? absolutely nothing. It wasn’t until last week, when the Daily Wire republished the video, that the school issued a statement calling the comments unacceptable and banning James from campus. Why not whispers of outrage first? Because Colombia was comfortable covering it up. And now it’s been reported that the school has given James an “interim suspension.”

What do you have to say about getting kicked out of Colombia? Calling for millions of Jews to die is not enough? Does anyone believe that if a student calls for killing blacks or killing homosexuals, he will be gone in an instant? The double standards could not be more obvious than this.

(Khimani later issued a non-apology, saying he respected life but accused Israel of genocide.)

Look, I’m one Free speech boy. Peaceful protest is a fundamental right, no matter how disgusting the message, but camping with tents in the middle of the square is a violation of the rules. Similarly, law-abiding students are being harassed with slogans such as “Burn Tel Aviv” and saying that the October 7 atrocity “not 10 times, not 100 times, not 1,000 times, but 10,000 times.” will be.”

And there are consequences too. USC has canceled its graduation. Jewish students have now essentially vacated some of these campuses. I went to Columbia Journalism School and now I’m a little embarrassed by it.

Some of these are Orwellian. Two months after the 9/11 attacks, Shafiq said she can understand how anti terrorism, But this is the furthest thing from anti-terrorism. This is the killing of innocent civilians.

Colombia is infamous for the protests of 1968, when extremist elements of the anti-Vietnam War movement engaged in violence. But today it’s echoing and a Democratic convention is headed to Chicago.

The political consequences can be measured in some of yesterday’s stories.

Student reaction after commencement was canceled due to student protest

Washington Post Says Donald Trump and other Republicans “are taking advantage of campus protests across the country to show the United States is out of control under President Biden.”

Beyond the “disruption,” the newspaper says, “Top Republicans have highlighted the anti-Semitic chants occurring at some protests. The issue is complicated by the debate over what constitutes anti-Semitism — and when criticism of Israel crosses that line — while some student organizers have condemned the chants or said they are coming from outside activists.”

Let me stop there. The matter is not complicated. These are not just “mantras”. It’s very clear what anti-Semitism is, what blatant persecution of Jewish students is

Trump has cited protests to make allegations Biden and the Democrats Of being unable to maintain order or end anarchy.” And that is a fair political argument. Of course the former President, whose criminal secret money trial resumes today, has his own burdens on the law and order front.

the new York Times Looking at Biden’s party, the protests are “highlighting fresh tensions within the Democratic Party over how to balance free speech protections and support for Gaza, with concerns that some Jewish Americans have raised about anti-Semitism.” Have been.”

Well, a flag has to be flown here too. “Support for Gazans” is actually support for Hamas, the terrorist group that started the war, especially among those who engage in “from the river to the sea” rhetoric. This does not mean that there cannot be sympathy for the rising death toll in Gaza, especially for civilian families, and the growing hunger crisis, which I share.

But this phrase raising concerns about anti-Semitism by “some Jewish Americans” is offensive. Most Americans share our concern about this spreading poison. You don’t have to be Jewish to reject Hamas and the unspeakable tactics that led to the largest single-day death toll of Jews since the Holocaust.

“Some of the lawmakers who have visited the camps and participated in the demonstrations are part of a long tradition of student campus activism, and their free speech rights are under threat. Incidents of anti-Semitism are part of a broader movement,” he says. “which includes many young progressive Jews.”

That’s right, it’s a “long tradition of campus activism,” not that “Zionists don’t deserve to live,” as Khimani James put it. And the war has certainly hurt Biden because of the anti-Israel stance of many young Democrats.

Free speech is really important, but when you look at the tent occupation that has closed off an entire section of Columbia’s upper Manhattan campus, that’s an invasion.

After more than a week of wrangling, Colombia set a deadline of 2 pm tomorrow for these protesters to leave or face immediate suspension. The deadline came and went, with no movement from the NYPD or campus security. Late last night Colombia said it had begun imposing the suspension.

Defiant protesters are telling reporters that they are feeling emboldened that the demonstrations are spreading and that they are sticking to their goal of forcing Colombia to divest investment funds from any firms that profit from Israel.

But keep in mind, these suspensions are temporary.
