“We have explained the gospel to our kids every day,” Morgan said. “This wasn’t a one-time event.”

“We look at this as an ongoing conversation that happens with our kids all the time, but the doubts remain,” he said. “Did I say the right thing? Did I do the right thing?”

Morgan said he and his wife had trouble understanding whether they had preached the Gospel to their 6-year-old daughter before her death.

Morgan said he asked himself, “Was I good enough as a father and a mother to make it clear that Jesus died for you, loved you, we need His love, we need His death and resurrection.”

Lucy’s father said he took to his blog, New Creation Living, as a “simple cry for help”.

“The first post was just a plea for help from people I knew would pray for us, and it was a way for me to release the trauma that I was holding in my body,” she said. “I found it to be a helpful process for me to process my grief, confusion, and anger.”

“I think God is pleased to use it, and it’s very fulfilling for me,” he said. “I still try to be myself and stay authentic.”

Morgan said people keep telling her they are amazed at her family’s faith during her young daughter’s heartbreaking death, but she explained it wasn’t that simple.

“We didn’t want to stay any longer. A big part of us wanted to work with God,” he said. “And we couldn’t do that. It just couldn’t happen.”

“I think God has put all of these things into our lives so that we can be prepared for this,” he said. “I don’t even know what any of this means in God’s plan, and I don’t want to try to figure it out and explain it by doing divine math.”

“It’s not because of my strength,” he said.

Morgan said that two days before Lucy’s unexpected death, the family sang “He Will Hold Me Fast” by Christian singers Keith and Kristyn Getty and Selah.

“It can be summed up in one of the first lines, “When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast,” Morgan recalled. “I’ve never really felt like that, and I felt the prayers of millions of people, thousands of people. I don’t know how many people praying and helping us. And that was it.”
