On August 12, 2024, the Ministry of Education unveiled the ninth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. This year, the number of participating higher education institutions has increased from 3,565 in 2016 to 10,845, reflecting significant growth in the education sector.
NIRF now covers sixteen categories and subject domains, a significant increase from the four categories in 2016. Institutions are assessed based on five key parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusiveness; and perception.
In the latest overall ranking category, Delhi leads the list with 7 institutes, followed by Chennai with 8, Mumbai with 4, Kolkata and Hyderabad with 3 each. Let’s see which institutes and universities have secured the top spots and what it means for their respective cities.
