Priyanka Chopra’s dreamy 2018 wedding remains an iconic event. For the Christian ceremony, the actress collaborated with Ralph Lauren to create a signature look, marking only the third time in five decades that he had designed a bridal gown. The fine details of the gown blended their family traditions and cultures beautifully.
Ralph Lauren’s official internal publication RL Mag described Priyanka’s gown, saying, “At Priyanka’s request, eight special words and phrases were incorporated into the coat’s embroidery pattern, including “hope” and “compassion” as well as a Hindu mantra, “Om Namah Shivaya” and “December 1, 2018,” the date of the ceremony.” The groom’s full name, Nicholas Jerry Jonas, was placed on the front of the coat, the same as his parents’ names on the back. (A piece of lace from the dress Nick’s mother wore at her wedding was also sewn into the pattern.) “Family” scrolled along the right sleeve, where Priyanka has a tattoo on her wrist, which reads “Daddy’s Lil Girl…”

Parineeti Chopra added her grandmother’s ring to her wedding dress
Parineeti Chopra looked the happiest bride ever as she married her longtime boyfriend Radhav Chaddha in Delhi last year. The beautiful bride wore an ivory lehenga designed by Manish Malhotra which she paired with statement jewellery that rounded off her look. Paying a heartfelt tribute to her grandmother, Parineeti incorporated one of her grandmother’s favourite things into her wedding outfit.
Elaborating on the details of the piece, Manish Malhotra had shared, “Certain details make a lot of difference. I clearly remember discussing the design of the lehenga with @parineetichopra 💕 who mentioned adding her Nani’s chhalla (traditional keychain) to it! She wanted to pay a heartfelt tribute to her Nani who used to wear the same chhalla with keys in her sari, which symbolises being the lady of the house. For Parineeti, the sound of the chhalla when her Nani walked around the house was a melody of power and grace. And that’s when I felt we had to add that piece of heritage to her lehenga. Of course, we also added other things that were significant to both Raghav and Parineeti like London, sangeet, Khanda Sahib and more. It wasn’t just an accessory… but a piece of them that Parineeti would wear on her special day.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan wore a heritage sharara at her wedding
After her registered marriage to Saif Ali Khan in 2012, Kareena Kapoor wore a historic heritage lehenga. This vintage outfit holds deep sentimental value for the Pataudi family, having been originally worn by Begum Sajida Sultan of Bhopal for her wedding in 1939, and later gifted to their daughter-in-law Sharmila Tagore for her nikah in 1962. For Kareena’s wedding, the rusty orange dress with intricate gold detailing was carefully restored and embellished by renowned designer Ritu Kumar.
Talking about the restoration, Ritu Kumar told TNN in 2012, “The fabric was completely gone, only the border was there, and we had to recreate the embroidery with the original thread, and also completely reweave the old Banarasi cloth – it required a lot of patience. Since I am interested in restoration, I can say that probably, it was a mastercraft of the Wajid Ali Shah period. It was painstakingly recreated inch by inch, the way pure gold thread work was done in the olden days, that’s the way it was done, we basically woven a piece of gold.” Ritu Kumar took about six months to make and recreate the dupatta and the outfit.
