This particular shooting day was shot well in advance as we had decided to film the real-life scenes. Ganesh VisarjanWe sent five camera crews across Mumbai to film it, saw the footage and then decided to show the statue to the director. Farhan Akhtar And I wanted to recreate it. We also mixed some shots of the real crowd and the visarjan in the song. We made an 18-foot idol to match the one shown in the footage, and looked for an artisan who could make it. Crafting such a grand song using live locations required detailed planning and collaboration with the choreographer (Rajeev Surti) along with the director. The entrance of the chawl was not high enough to carry the Ganesh idol on a truck, so there was a lot of loading and unloading while going to Juhu beach for the visarjan sequence. The Ganpati song for Shah Rukh’s Don was shot in a chawl. Many props were made and sourced, like the ektara, 90-100 instruments like dhols and cymbals, flags, coloured powder, flowers and piñatas.”

The first song in ABCD was with the typical dhol TashaBut music directors Sachin-Jigar and I got rapper Hard Kaur to sing the second song, Sadda Dil Vi Tu, which leads to the climax, because it was a dance-based film and we wanted to do something different, There is a part in ABCD where the dancers wear Ganesha masks and form 7 levels to make a Ganpati out of their bodies – every time the dancers try, they fall and get injured. My wife Lizelle suggested they not eat non-veg on the day of the shoot and eventually, we completed the shoot in two days.”
