He has described the terrorist group as a religious movement that is “waging a holy war” under the guise of a political party. He did not refrain from criticizing the group after the October 7 attack, as he saw some in the US protest on college campuses and pressure on Congress to stop the operation in Gaza before Hamas is destroyed.

“There will be consequences for giving in to terrorists,” Yousuf said. “We are sending the wrong message. These people do not take our statements or our actions as tolerance that we are trying to establish peace. They see it as weakness.

“The more we keep sending the wrong messages, the more we complicate the situation,” he said. “We have to stand firm in every situation. … Hamas is a declared terrorist group In the United States, this group is recognized under American law, so it is ridiculous for any lawmaker to fail to distinguish between this group.

Youssef rejected such claims, saying Israel left the Gaza Strip nearly 20 years ago and that Hamas had ruled “with an iron hand” during that time while successive governments worked to undermine it.

“There was a blockade on Gaza, not only by Israel but also by Egypt and other international forces, because Hamas would not agree to give up its guns and recognize Israel’s right to exist,” Youssef explained. “That was the only reason for the blockade. It was a security blockadeIt had nothing to do with race or nationalism.

“Everything is wrong with this group,” said Youssef. “There is nothing good or religious about Hamas. They have adopted murder, destruction and violence as the only means to achieve their political and religious agenda.

“So what is good about Hamas? Killing people indiscriminately? Killing Palestinians? Killing Arabs, Jews and Americans?” he asked. “They have blood on their hands. They have used violence as their only strategy since the beginning of their movement, and they have turned their violence into genocide. So, what is not clear about Hamas?”

“It’s really incumbent on lawmakers and government officials, including the president of the United States, President Biden, to not only establish and enforce Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, but to actually hold the good men and women of higher education in this country, the greatest system of higher education in the world … accountable for a code of conduct,” Dicker said.

“If that does not happen, Jewish students and other friends of the Jewish and democratic state are and will remain in grave physical danger on our campuses, and I am sure the president does not want that.”
