When words first broke her Joe Biden sat down with Howard Stern for a live interview on his SiriusXM show on Friday, it was an absolute guarantee that it would be an embarrassing tee-ball session with nothing resembling challenging questions nor anything related to those major issues. Which is why Biden’s turnout is lower than any president since Jimmy Carter.
And on that front, Stern did and then some.
In what could be called the best PR for anyone in power, the host “repeatedly praised Biden for these things.take out the vaccine“After COVID hit (that was Trump). Stern also claimed Biden has “cut emissions in half” (no, he hasn’t). The former shock jock turned Democratic activist takes on Republicans”. Also falsely accused of being “pro-Putin” simply because some people wanted US border funds to aid Ukraine. And when Biden (again) claimed he was arrested for standing on his porch with a black family when he was young, a claim that was roundly debunked, Stern remained silent.

But that doesn’t mean there weren’t many moments of laugh-out-loud humor, even if of the unintentional variety: Take the time about halfway through the hour-long interview when Biden claimed women used to send him “very erotic photos.” After being elected to the Senate in the 1970s. The President claimed that he had given these photos to the Secret Service. Any host of a community access station knows that senators do not have Secret Service protection, and it is very difficult to believe that Biden, a freshman Delaware senator, was some kind of sex symbol. And what would a Joe Biden interview be without sharing the amount of miles flown with another person? The only newsworthy thing to come out of the interview was Biden saying he would debate trump at some point. Up to this point, neither the White House nor the President would confirm that intention.
At another point, Biden promised he would have the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade 2022 decision, which sent the abortion issue back to the states, overturned if re-elected. Biden made the same pledge at the State of the Union in March, saying that if given a Democrat-controlled Congress, he would sign a bill to re-legalize abortion in all 50 states.

my column The prediction of how this interview would turn out was almost fulfilled. I wrote that Stern would focus on how terrible he believes Trump is (he did) while bringing up abortion as the only major domestic issue that would be raised during the conversation (on that front Also correct). I also predicted that the border crisis would be ignored (it was), as well as violent crime in major cities (it was) and nothing about the economy would be mentioned by Stern (who only talked about low unemployment. (but did not touch on inflation).
Overall, both men got what they wanted: Stern proved he could kiss butt on a Colbert/Kimmel/Meyers level while impressing his A-list celebrity friends. hamptonWhereas Biden came across as a sympathetic man who loves his family.

Expect more interviews like this from Biden as we head toward Election Day.

But don’t expect a single press conference where real questions and follow-up questions will be asked by journalists who still care about holding the powerful accountable.
Elected bastards like the once-great Howard Stern are the only people who will have access to this President, and that’s a real shame.
