A much-awaited decision by the court Supreme Court Former presidents enjoy broad immunity for their official actions while in the White House, a point former President Trump repeatedly praised in the hours after the high court’s blockbuster opinion.

“Brilliantly written and sensible,” Trump wrote in a social media post about the decision. The decision is likely to deal a major blow to the ongoing prosecution against Trump, who is accused of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Biden.

“The Supreme Court’s decision is much more powerful than some people expected.” Trump in the spotlight.

The move on Monday by the conservative-dominated court — which includes three judges nominated by Trump — means the trial judge in the lower court case against Trump will now have to hear whether the allegations against Trump were based on official or unofficial acts of the then-president.

What did Trump tell Fox News about the Supreme Court decision?

The process will take time, and it is highly unlikely that Trump will be prosecuted for attempting to overturn the 2020 election before voters cast their votes in the 2024 reelection between the former president and his Democratic successor.

During an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Brooke Singman, Trump called it a “huge victory for our Constitution and democracy.”

But Biden’s chief deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks charged in a conference call with reporters that “this decision will give Donald Trump an opportunity to do exactly what he has been saying for months that he wants to do, which is seek revenge and retribution against his political enemies.”

Fulks argued, “This is a defining moment for our country. The conservative justices on the court, three of whom are there only because of Donald Trump, have made it easier for him to go down the path of dictatorship.”

A big question ahead is what kind of impact the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity will have on a Biden-Trump reunion, with the November election just four months away.

The president has long alleged that Trump is a threat to democracy and his argument is a mainstay of his campaign for a second term in the White House.

And Biden emphasized this in his address on Monday night.

“The American people must decide whether it is acceptable for Trump to resort to violence to preserve power,” the President stressed. “Perhaps most importantly, the American people must decide whether they want to once again entrust the presidency to Donald Trump, knowing that he will be even more emboldened to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants.”

Some Biden supporters see a positive aspect in the Supreme Court’s move.

Maria Caradonna, a longtime Democratic strategist and presidential campaign veteran, said that “this decision is an inspiration to voters who care about our democracy, our Constitution, and the rule of law. It’s an inspiration for them to work hard to elect President Biden because the Supreme Court’s decision was a victory for one man, Donald Trump, and it was a huge loss for the country and our democracy.”

Voters need to understand that presidents matter when it comes to the makeup of the Court. Today’s dangerous decision from the MAGA Court Trump created is proof of that,” argued Cardona, a committee member of the Democratic National Committee.

Democratic strategist Joe Caiazzo, another veteran of multiple presidential campaigns, emphasized that voters will remember the decision when they cast their ballots in the fall.

Caiazzo said, “The stakes of the election continue to rise as this activist court attacks the integrity of reproductive rights, environmental protections, and now the ability to hold elected officials accountable for their actions. Voters will remember this in November.”

But Ryan Williams, a Republican Party consultant and communicator who has participated in several Republican presidential campaigns, highlighted that the decision “reduces the chances of Trump coming to court before the election. This is a victory for Trump.”

“The consensus was that the federal cases contained the more serious charges and by moving them to after the election, they are removed as a distraction during the campaign,” Ryan said. “Trump can now continue to campaign while focusing on the election rather than preparing for a trial before Election Day. That’s a win for him.”
