If you love the goddess of cinema, she will love you too: Sudhir Mishra reveals his rule on filmmaking |

He saved my life and he is everything to me: Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra Speaking about his relationship with the “goddess of cinema” who continues to guide him in his creative endeavours, the director, known for critically acclaimed films like “Yeh Wo Manzil To Nahin”, “Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin”, “Chameli” and “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi”, said he has only one rule in his life – never disrespect the “lovely energy called cinema”.
“The Goddess of Cinema saved my life, she is everything to me. Many people don’t understand this. I often get angry on the sets, but I believe it is unholy to displease the Goddess of Cinema. I wouldn’t be alive if she wasn’t there. If you love her, she will love you too. That’s the only rule I follow,” Mishra said in an interview to PTI.
“I didn’t go to cheap schools, I didn’t get some third-rate Facebook coach to teach me about content… I just follow ‘Dharma’ Story He said, “Respect this lovely energy called cinema. And if you respect it, you become a better person and learn more about yourself.”
The Lucknow-born filmmaker can be seen busy with his movies. OTT Shows ‘Tenance’, the second season of which began streaming on SonyLIV earlier this month, but he hopes to return to films soon as that is his passion.
He said, “I look at every film as if it is my first. I want to live another 50 years as a filmmaker, though I know that is not possible. I will continue making films because I am as modern as any young person… I don’t have children, so I am not afraid of young people, I respect them, befriend them and work with them. As long as I live, I am in this field.”
The challenge, however, is to come up with a new concept and then get financial backing to turn it into a film, said Mishra, who is also known for co-writing the classic film “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron”.
“It is always difficult to make a film that is somewhat new and has no precedent. What are you making, hey that ‘Stree’ was made, I am making a similar horror film. It is an easy task.”
“It’s always hard to do something different, it’s hard to get funding for that.”
Mishra, 65, said a writer who can write a good script will never have any trouble in coming up with an interesting idea.
He said, “If you are a storyteller and can write well, you will be able to make a good film. In the age of AI, people who don’t know how to write a good screenplay will face difficulty.”
giving an example of this Kerala film industry While top stars like Mammootty are doing edgy films like “Kaathal: The Core” and several first-time directors and actors are also moving ahead with their stories, the director said the scene in Mumbai, the home of Hindi cinema, is quite different.
He said, “I was the head of the jury of the Kerala State Film Awards (for the year 2023) and I saw 35 wonderful films. If you go to Kerala, you feel that cinema is well analysed there… and if I take that experience as an example, cinema is doing very well there.”
“There are a lot of talented youngsters in Mumbai who are skilled and should be given the opportunity to explore themselves. But there is always an attempt to control the budget, what works, what doesn’t and what is new. Sometimes this tension is justified and leads to a good film and (sometimes it doesn’t).”
“Tension”, Indian adaptation of popular Israeli show”Fauda“The film is set in Kashmir and the people there want to live in peace, so, the exploration had to be more sensitive.
“It is an amazing place, not just in terms of the topography or the landscape, but also its people want to live in peace and harmony. You have to be more gentle in adapting. You have to be more compassionate and tread carefully.
“It is also an adaptation of a kind of emotional story. It is a story of women’s choices, relationships and their losses, which are lost on both sides. I tell people who like ‘Bang Bang Bang’ to watch ‘Tanshan’ because it is not ‘Bang Bang Bang’,” he added.
The second season of ‘Tanaav’ will see the return of the original cast members Manav Vij, Arbaaz Khan, Rajat Kapoor and Satyadeep Mishra. Applause Entertainment,
In the second season, Kabir (Vij) and the Special Task Group (STG) return to action when a young man seeking revenge emerges as a dangerous threat.

Pranali Rathore and Aashay Mishra on ‘Durga’, their relationship, her role Akshara, link-up rumours with Harshad

“If you’re not sensational, if you don’t deliberately try to create sensationalism or if someone doesn’t want to make you a scapegoat for their agenda, then I don’t think controversies will happen… That’s what the second season has tried to do.”
