IAS Officer Salary Allowances 2024: Allowances
As per the 7th Pay Commission guidelines, IAS officers are entitled to their basic salary as well as additional allowances, one of the major benefits being House Rent Allowance (HRA). Along with HRA, there are other allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), and Transport Allowance (TA). HRA rates vary depending on the classification of the city of posting:
- Class X cities (including major metropolitan areas like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune): 24% of basic pay.
- Category Y cities (which cover about 100 towns with population more than 5 lakh): 16% of basic pay.
- Class Z Area (Rural Area): 8% of basic pay.

Accommodation: IAS officers have the privilege of living in duplexes located within the VVIP-restricted area of the state capital where they are posted. This eligibility remains in effect even if they are assigned to different districts, commissions or headquarters.
service quarter: Apart from their residence in the capital, IAS officers are allotted service quarters for their use.
transportation: Every IAS officer is provided with at least one vehicle, with the option of up to three with a driver. All vehicles are fitted with blue beacons, while those promoted to the post of Chief Secretary get cars fitted with red beacons. The government bears the cost of fuel and maintenance of these vehicles.
Security: IAS officers and their families enjoy the highest level of security. Officers posted at the state headquarters generally have three home guards and two bodyguards. District Magistrates and Commissioners have access to the full police force and can also establish their own police units.
