The “Mayor of Kingstown” star shows off his recovery efforts and goes shirtless on the cover men’s Health July/August issue. Working on Season 3 of the popular series a year after the accident wasn’t easy by any means, but Reiner made a commitment to himself, the cast, and the show’s fans.

“It was four months of abuse,” Renner said of her workouts with personal trainer Kat Cantella. “Physically, mentally, emotionally. But I feel great and I look great!”

Renner began rehabilitation at home before returning home “Kingstown” will be filmed in Pittsburgh. But he admitted he was barely prepared for the first day of filming in the cemetery, where temperatures never reached above 40 degrees.

“When we started on Jan. 8, I was so weak. We were walking around on the ice and I had no energy,” Renner said. “I was sleeping. But I think this will be the best season ever because of that. Don’t get me wrong, Mike is still Mike – he’s still the guy you want to be your friend. But it’s more emotional, because I’m more emotional.”

Reiner at one point nearly quit the show due to his mental breakdown, and has said he has no interest in working on any “fictional” shows.

“Because, man, the last thing I wanted to do — honestly, I was almost about to quit filming and do this show — was do something fictional,” he said. “Like, ‘Oh wait, I don’t give a shit about fictional things!’ Bullshit words and bullshit stories and bullshit characters. It’s all bullshit. I have to live in actual reality here, because these bones and these joints — and I have to say fake lines and fake words and pretend… what? I don’t have time to pretend, man!”

He added, “So I turned it around like this, because I only have control over my approach: I’m coming to Pittsburgh to heal my body and get better every day, and I’m going to do this show on the side. Instead of the other way around.”

Several vehicles were stranded due to the severe snow storm the previous night, and Renner attempted to remove a vehicle from his driveway using his Pistenbully. He successfully removed the car, got out of the Pistenbully and was talking to a family member when the snowblower unexpectedly started running.

Deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department responded to the bloody scene, which was reported by a neighbor attempting to help Renner shortly before 9 a.m. His nephew, Alex Fries, Rainer got out of the snowplow to check on his nephew as he was trying to pull a truck stuck in the snow, but he kept moving forward, so he jumped back in to stop the snowplow, but got stuck in its moving part.

As Renner was taken away from the scene, a paramedic could be heard saying, “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

“What a f**king disaster, man,” Renner told Men’s Health about his recovery. “Showering, going to the bathroom — everything was a disaster.”

He added, “They give you drugs so you don’t go to the toilet, so you get constipated. And you pee in a jar. It was horrible. Then you realise things aren’t going well – you’re peeing in a plastic jug. It took me 17 minutes to get out of bed.”

Following the accident and his discharge from the hospital, the “Hawkeye” star kept his fans updated on his progress via social media.

“There are so many people who love me. And I had no idea,” Renner told Men’s Health. “I’ve had to learn how to receive all this love, and it’s not easy. From people you don’t even know, even.

“Why is this accident such a big deal? But then I said, ‘Hey, stop asking why. Just accept it.’ I was famous for having a bow and arrow; now I’m famous for overcoming something as a man.”
