Leading candidates Vice President Harris’s running mate The Democratic presidential candidates are Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. If these names are unfamiliar to you, count yourself among the majority of Americans who don’t know or have never heard of the Democrat who could be the next vice president, according to a report NPR/PBS News Marist Poll,

The poll found that Kelly had the highest support of the three candidates for the No. 2 White House job, with 31% in favor and 18% disapproving, but 52% of respondents still said they were unsure or had never heard of him.

Shapiro, who is projected to be the vice presidential frontrunner as Harris makes her first run-in with her running mate in Philadelphia, has a 25%-23% favorability to unfavorable rating. Still, 53% of Americans are unsure.

For WalzThe progressive favorite is by far the most unknown of the three, with 71% of survey respondents saying they are unsure or have never heard of him.

Meanwhile, Harris has improved his favorability numbers, now at 46-48% favorable-unfavorable, compared to 40-44% in the last Marist survey.

The Republican nominee, former President Trump, is rated mostly unfavorable by 53%, while 44% of respondents have a positive opinion of the GOP candidate. Trump’s unfavorable score has increased four points since the last Marist poll, which was taken just after the Republican National Convention and his assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The survey of 1,613 adults was conducted between Thursday and Sunday and has a margin of error of +/- 3.3 percentage points. Respondents were contacted in both English and Spanish via cellphone, landline or online research panel.

Harris will announce her selection at a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening.

It will be Harris’s First trip to Pennsylvania as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, after clinching the nomination on Monday. The trip marks his seventh visit to the Commonwealth this year and 17th since being sworn in as vice president in 2021.

Kelly, Shapiro and Walz are the final candidates for the vice presidential nomination since President Biden stunned the country by dropping out of the 2024 race and endorsing Harris to be his successor.

Democratic sources confirmed to Fox News that Harris was in Washington DC over the weekend and was conducting in-person interviews with her potential running mate. Others under consideration include governors Andy Beshear of Kentucky and JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Ahead of meeting with the nominees, Harris was briefed by an investigative team led by former Attorney General Eric Holder.

How the announcement will unfold is not yet known, but it is likely to come via a video introduction, similar to how Biden announced Harris as his running mate four years ago. But the Harris campaign’s plans could be affected if the announcement leaks to the media on Monday or Tuesday.

Following the rally in Philadelphia, Harris and her fellow would-be candidates will team up for an ambitious and busy state tour through Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada. The vice president drew more than 10,000 people to his first major rally since taking over from Biden on the Democrats’ ticket at the Georgia State Convocation Center in Atlanta last week.

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance will also be present on Harris’ tour, Fox News confirmed. The Ohio senator will act as the Trump campaign’s attack dog and attempt to persuade voters against Harris in crucial swing states.
