Speaking to Fox News Digital at the premiere of his new film, “Horizon: An American Saga,” Speaking in Los Angeles on Monday, the 69-year-old actor spoke about the time it took to create the project and why he’s so “proud” of the movement so far.

“Well, this is my town. It’s a company town. I have a lot of admiration for Hollywood and what it’s been. To be able to bring a movie and be a part of the history of all the people who have brought movies to Westwood, to the Chinese (Theatre). It’s a ceremony. It’s something we go through. We celebrate. I’m really proud of the movie that people will see tonight. When you let it go, it’s now in the river and people can see it long after I’m alive.”

Costner went on to explain why his involvement has been one of the hardest things he’s ever done.

“You can see how long it took to get this done,” he said. “I think I directed ‘Dances With Wolves’ in 106 days, and ‘Horizon’ is arguably just as big, and we did it in 52 (days). The only reason it happened was because of the people I had with me. We never stopped working.”

In addition to starring in the feature film, Costner also directed “Horizon”, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Baird. The cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, Abbey Lee, Jena Malone, Giovanni Ribisi and others.

Speaking more about Costner’s work ethic, cast member Isabelle Fuhrman said the actor is an “incredible leader.”

“I feel very grateful. Kevin is such a visionary,” she said. “I’ve respected him for so many years. When he asked me to be a part of this, I had a wave of excitement go through my body. Westerns were kind of a dream that I never thought I’d get a moment in. I don’t think it’s often where we see women playing such deep, interesting characters. There’s always a gunfight. I felt he was trying to make a movie I hadn’t seen before, a world I hadn’t seen before.”

“You’re not just looking at the history of America,” he continued. “America is the main character in this movie, and it’s really about the promise that a lot of people go out there for and hope to fulfill and all the trials and tribulations that they face. It felt like a challenge to tell that story not just on a grand scale, but also with an intimate, close-up look at each character. Kevin inspires me every day to rise to the occasion and be the best version of myself. He’s an incredible leader.”

“He’s one of those guys, Kevin Costner leads by example,” Wilson said. “He’s a really hard-working guy, very thorough, but he’s also open to the little moments he hadn’t thought of and tries to capture them. He’s a top-notch filmmaker.”

Speaking to Fox News Digital ahead of the premiere, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that his 15-year-old son, Hayes, isn’t the only Costner child to show off his acting abilities in the film.

“They all support each other,” Costner said of his seven children. “My oldest son was in one scene in chapter two, and then had a small part.”

“I just try to find ways to trap them,” he joked.

Costner shares two sons, Hayes, 15, and Kayden, 17, and daughter Grace, 14, with ex-wife Christine Baumgartner. their divorce was finalized in February, after 18 years of marriage.

He also has three adult children – Annie, Lily and Joe – with ex-wife Cindy Silva, and son Liam, 26, with former partner Bridget Rooney.

While his elder son makes his debut in the second part of “Horizon,” his son Hayes was just 13 when he signed on to star in the first film of this post-Civil War drama, which Costner began thinking about more than 30 years ago.

“He did it, he was good at it, he listened, he worried, he cared … I’m just so happy that now he has this for the rest of his life,” Costner said. “I didn’t involve my kids in it, and this may have been his only attempt, but it’s memorable. And for him to be there for me, I’ll never forget that.”

After months of speculation, Costner confirmed on social media last week that he would not return for season five, part B of “Yellowstone.”

“Hi everyone. I just wanted to reach out to you and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on ‘Horizon,’ and doing all the things that needed to be done, and thinking about ‘Yellowstone,’ that beloved series that I love and I know you love too, I’ve just realized that I won’t be able to continue on for Season 5 or in the future,” he said on Instagram.

“It was something that really changed me. I loved it and I know you loved it too. And I wanted to let you know that I won’t be back. I love the relationship that we’ve been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”

Through his deal with Fox Nation, Costner is set to release a new project for the platform in 2025 and previously hosted a series called “Yellowstone: One Fifty,” which traces the origins of the national park.
