Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 14th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. The Royals, captained by Sanju Samson, will try to continue their winning streak in this year’s IPL. RR started their IPL 2024 campaign with a 20-run win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Later, they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs in their last match.

RR is at third place in the table after winning two consecutive matches.

On the other hand, five-time champions MI are yet to open their account in this year’s IPL under the leadership of new captain Hardik Pandya.

MI lost by six runs against Gujarat Titans (GT), followed by a 31-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their previous encounter.

Ahead of another exciting encounter in IPL 2024, we take a look at the predicted XIs of both the sides.

RR predicted XI

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Flamboyant opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has so far been able to score only 29 runs in two matches. Jaiswal will be hoping for a fast start against MI on Monday.

English batsman Jos Buttler is once again expected to open the innings for the Royals. Buttler, who has not performed up to his potential so far, will try to improve his statistics.

Sanju Samson (Captain/Wicketkeeper)

RR captain, Sanju Samson played a match-winning inning in the first match of IPL 2024. Batting at number three, Sanju scored unbeaten 82 off just 52 balls to take RR to 193/4 in 20 overs against LSG. His innings included three fours and six sixes. He would like to continue his great form against MI.

Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag was another standout batsman for the Royals against LSG. Parag made a brilliant partnership of 93 runs with captain Samson for the third wicket. This powerful right-handed batsman scored 43 runs in 29 balls, which included one four and three sixes.

Shimron Hetmyer

West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer will retain his place in the Royals playing eleven despite failing in his opening game. The 27-year-old scored 300 runs in 14 matches last season at a strike rate of 152.28, while he also averaged 37.50.

Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel impressed for Royals against LSG in Jaipur. Batting at number six, Jurel scored 20 runs in just 12 balls to take RR to a strong score. He will aim to continue his good form against the star-studded MI bowling line-up.

Ravichandran Ashwin

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s economy was slightly better against Lucknow Super Giants, but he took the wicket of Marcus Stoinis. He has been scoring runs this year, but his ability to take wickets at crucial moments of the game cannot be ignored.

Sandeep Sharma

Experienced right-arm fast bowler, Sandeep Sharma bowled brilliantly in RR’s opening game. The Patiala born cricketer took the big wicket of LSG captain KL Rahul. He would like to add to his tally against MI.

Avesh Khan

India’s Avesh Khan was economical for RR in the opening match of IPL 2024. The 27-year-old right-arm fast bowler bowled some good overs. They will aim to take some important wickets in their upcoming match.

New Zealand’s star pacer, Trent Boult, has been RR’s bowling leader since 2022. The left-arm pacer once again provided the early breakthroughs for the Royals as he dismissed LSG’s Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal in his first two overs. He will look to improve on his numbers against the five-time champions to show his worth once again.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal has taken 188 IPL wickets in just 146 matches. The right-arm leg spinner once again had a good start to the new season, as he took three wickets in the opening two matches.

Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians’ experienced opening batsman, Rohit Sharma is the second-highest run-scorer for MI this season with 69 runs and a whopping strike rate of 168.29. Sharma has been looking in great form this season and his batting at home is likely to go up a notch.

Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper)

Ishan Kishan, another influential player for MI, will open the batting along with Rohit. Ishaan is entering this match on the basis of his entertaining performance in the last match. He scored 34 runs in just 13 balls which included two fours and four sixes. He can be expected to play a sensational innings against RR.

Naman Dheer

Batting at one down, 31-year-old Naman Dheer has scored 50 runs in two matches for MI. He has not got a dream start in IPL 2024 but he is expected to showcase his explosive batting skills.

Tilak Verma

Mumbai Indians’ top run scorer Tilak Verma is expected to surprise the fans at Wankhede with his explosive batting. Tilak, who has scored 89 runs in two matches, can wreak havoc against Rajasthan’s bowling lineup. He is coming into this game after a brilliant inning of 64 runs against SRH.

Hardik Pandya (Captain)

The inclusion of MI captain, Hardik Pandya in the playing eleven against Rajasthan Royals will be a huge boost to the team. Although the star all-rounder has not got a powerful start, he brings an explosive batting option and a vital bowling element to add balance to the team.

The inclusion of Gerald Coetzee against the Royals has added a talented fast bowler to MI’s armoury. The South African fast bowler has taken three wickets in two matches so far. Known for his pace and bounce-generating ability, Coetzee brings a new dimension to the Mumbai Indians bowling attack.

Jasprit Bumrah

Mumbai’s leading wicket-taker, Jasprit Bumrah will feature prominently in the predicted playing XI against Rajasthan. Bumrah has taken three wickets in two matches at an economy of 6.25. His laser-guided yorkers can be a nightmare for RR batsmen as he looks to improve his numbers.

Piyush Chawla
