Susan SmithA woman who has served nearly three decades behind bars after drowning her two sons is optimistic about her upcoming parole hearing, reportedly telling one of several applicants on a recorded phone call that she has spent enough time in prison.
family members told New York Post The notorious South Carolina inmate, now 52, has been confident for the past several months that the parole board would let her out of prison following her upcoming hearing on November 4.
To prepare, Smith has been working hard to placate her fans — according to a recorded phone call from Leath Correctional Institution reviewed by the Post, convicted murderer Had romantic and sexual interactions with at least 12 lovers in the past three years.

“It’s time for me to get out. I’ve done my time. I’m ready to go,” Smith told one such suitor over the phone earlier this year.
In March, she asked another man how he could support her if she were released on parole, according to another conversation reviewed by the Post. The man replied that he had a large sum of money — made up of money he had saved, gifts from his fans and the sale of family property — waiting for her if she got out.
“I’ll tell you what I did last night thinking about you – I made a spreadsheet that starts at $213,000,” the caller told the notorious inmate. “You’ll have more than that. I think all in all you’ll be in the $220,000 range. You can (spend) $40,000 a year. When you’re withdrawing money from that balance, it’s still earning interest on the amount that’s not withdrawn.”

“In 20 years you will have spent most of it. But you will still have some money left,” he said.
“I love you so much,” Smith said after a pause.
“I love you too,” the lover replied.
The conversation took a vulgar turn, with the man speculating about what Smith would look like in a wet T-shirt, the Post reported.
“I’ll put you in the front seat of my car,” the man said. “You’re so bad,” Smith replied, laughing.
“I have some ideas of what we can do. But I’m going to make you confused before I tell you.”

“Babe, I’m already sobbing,” the man replied.
Towards the end of the previous year, she had “ways of getting his attention” and would speculate on how she could get his attention in the mornings.
“I can wake you up in the morning,” she said shyly. “And I do mean wake you up.”

But experts told the Post that Smith is unlikely to receive parole on his first attempt — or ever.
According to South Carolina Department of Corrections records, Smith was sentenced to life imprisonment on Nov. 4, 1994, after pleading guilty to two counts. Murder count Sons Michael Daniel Smith, 3, and Alexander Tyler Smith, 14 months, died.
Smith allowed her car to drive into John D. Long Lake in Union County, South Carolina, with both boys strapped into their car seats. She stayed put as the car sank, drowning both children.

Initially, the 22-year-old Smith told investigators Her car was robbed by a black man while the two boys were still inside the car.
A few days later, she wept on national television with her husband, David Smith, and pleaded for his safe return:
“Your mother loves you very much,” she said during a press conference.
But nine days later she confessed that it was allegedly because of her affair with a wealthy man who did not want children.

Her future love interest and former boyfriend, Tom Findlay, had written a letter a week earlier, which prosecutors said prompted Smith to drown the boys.
“Susan, I could literally fall in love with you. But as I’ve told you before, there are some things about you I don’t like, and yes, I’m talking about your kids,” he wrote. Deseret News,

David Smith, the father of two of the murdered children, has since remarried and fathered two more children. He and his family intend to protest Smith’s release.
“David still thinks about his boys every day, and never wants Susan to come out,” one of the man’s relatives told The Messenger. “He should be in prison … He’s exactly where he should be – in prison. And we’ll do whatever it takes to keep him there.”
Smith has confirmed his intention to attend the hearing, the Post reported. Meanwhile, South Carolina’s Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services has notified the victims’ families about the upcoming hearing.
