First up on Fox: A new report from a conservative think tank is shedding light on the size of today’s “booming” transgender surgery industry, which has reached billions of dollars and continues to grow and is raising a variety of concerns.

A new report from the American Principles Project (APP) reveals that the transgender “medicine” industry has grown into a massive system, where total revenue for transgender drugs and surgeries is projected to exceed $4.4 billion in 2023. That number could exceed $7.8 billion by 2030, according to the study.

,“My organization, the American Principles Project, has been concerned about the whole transgender agenda as it relates to children for quite some time,” APP president Terri Schilling told Fox News Digital.

“We know that there are obvious physical and psychological consequences, but we wanted to find out why this industry is growing so much, why such a small population is getting so much attention and so much media attention, you know, favourable attention in our cultural sphere, and we figured out very quickly that there’s a lot of money in it.,

The report states that the cost of lifetime use of cross-sex hormones can be up to $300,000, while surgical transition costs $150,000. In addition, transition surgery can lead to cancer, nerve damage, chronic pain, sexual dysfunction, and other potentially harmful side effects. mental health Due to these problems medical expenses increase.

The report notes that transgender surgery providers, including Cedars Sinai, the Regents of the University of MichiganMount Sinai Health System and several other companies are believed to have generated over $100 million in revenue from transgender surgeries in 2022, and pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and AbbVie are estimated to have generated $74 million and $51 million in revenue, respectively.

“There are a lot of physical bad things that happen to you and side effects that we’ve known about for some years, but that doesn’t explain why people are still turning to it,” Schilling told Fox News Digital.

“I think most human beings are generally good, and they don’t want to harm others. So what pushes people into these procedures and what encourages people to put other people through these painful procedures that cause them tremendous discomfort and harm? And it makes even more sense when you realize there are trillions and trillions of dollars at stake.”

The report says 1.6 million Americans now consider themselves transgender, including 300,000 individuals ages 13 to 17.

“Given the lucrative nature of this industry, it seems likely that physicians will continue to recommend and administer these drugs and procedures as long as they feel protected from liability,” APP said in a press release.

“However, a number of detransitioners are beginning to emerge, experiencing regrets as well as significant health problems as a result of their transition. Their public stories – as well as potential lawsuits – could ultimately pose a major challenge to the industry, resulting in transgender medicine going the way of the lobotomy.”

Schilling told Fox News Digital that the estimates in the report are likely conservative and that pro-gender transition activists have claimed the industry could surpass $200 billion per year, higher than a 2014 estimate of 2015. Film industry.

“We wanted the United States and the world to know how much money is being invested in this industry,” Schilling told Fox News Digital.

“It’s vitally important that the American people see the reality of what is happening: the harm these practices are causing, and the financial incentives that keep the industry afloat despite these consequences,” Schilling said in a press release.

“And policymakers must recognize that we cannot sit idly by while the number of victims of this industry continues to grow. While it is possible that increased liability will one day put an end to this evil practice, we should not wait for that to happen. Government action is necessary, and it cannot come a moment too soon.”

Fox News contacted Pfizer, AbbVie, Cedars Sinai, the Regents of the University of Michigan and Mount Sinai Health System for comment.
