Everyone had marked the game on their calendars. Lived up to the hype, and then some.

Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia contest was a rematch of last season SEC title gamewhich Bama won as the eighth-ranked team in the country – Georgia was ranked No. 1 by winning 42 of its last 43 games, but Bama’s win propelled them into the College Football Playoff, and eliminated Georgia.

Well, this matchup, like their last match, was simply epic.

After squandering its four-touchdown lead, No. 4 Alabama scored a late touchdown to win 41–34 in an instant classic over No. 2 Georgia.

Alabama scored four touchdowns in the first 19 minutes of the game to take a strong 28–0 lead, leading everyone to think the game would be over quickly. But, Georgia fought with all its might.

Georgia led the game 30–15, and then when Bama kicked a field goal to go back to three possessions, Georgia found the end zone when they desperately needed it. They failed on a two-point attempt, but after forcing a punt, the Bulldogs scored again. Suddenly, Bama’s lead was down to just four points.

Georgia then forced another punt, while Bama wasted no time, getting the ball back for a shot with a lead of 2:42 and all of their timeouts. Well, it only took one play for Georgia to take the lead, as Carson Beck found Dillon Bell on a 67-yard score to make it 34–33. Beck’s rush on the two-point conversion was short, but nonetheless, the comeback was complete, and Bama, which had dominated early, was suddenly in a position of desperation.

No worries – it was 17-year-old Ryan Williams who took a 75-yard pass from Jalen Miller to the house and after the successful two-point conversion, Bama trailed by seven points.

The Bulldogs faced fourth-and-2 with 1:22 to go at the Bama 47, and Beck found Colby Young for a first down, and after three plays, the Bulldogs were in the red zone. But, Beck was intercepted after going into the end zone and with a touchback, Bama was able to pull out an incredible victory.

After allowing four touchdowns early on, Georgia finally scored a touchdown midway through the second quarter. However, Beck was later called for intentional grounding in his own end zone, resulting in a safety. But apparently, despite trailing 30-7, Georgia just needed halftime.

Beck found Arian Smith for a 12-yard touchdown for the first score of the third quarter, and the two-point conversion brought them within 15. However, a Bama field goal late in the third quarter made it a three-possession game. On Georgia’s ensuing drive, Beck lost a fumble. But they were not dead, and began their next journey back. However, they couldn’t get any stops when they needed it most and Beck’s final turnover came at the worst time.

The game is Georgia’s first loss of the season, and after losing only one in a 43-game span, they have now lost two of their last five. They are 45-3 in their last 48 games, but all three losses have come to Alabama (though, one of those wins is a national championship against the Crimson Tide in 2022). Bama, meanwhile, improved to 4-0.

Miller finished with 373 yards on 27-33 passing, threw for two touchdowns and ran for another two, while the 17-year-old Williams had six catches for 177 yards and a touchdown. Beck turned the ball over four times, but still managed to throw for 439 yards and three touchdowns. Smith passed for 132 yards, while Bell added 100 yards.

This game was also put in the headlines Donald Trump’s appearanceThe former president and current Republican nominee received a standing ovation from fans as he walked through the halls and when he was shown on the Jumbotron.
