PM Modi leaves for US; will attend Quad summit, address UN’s ‘Summit of the Future’ | India News


New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Delhi on a three-day visit on Saturday. United StatesDuring this, he will attend the Quad Leaders Summit, address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly and will also interact with Indian expatriates.
In a post on Twitter, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Prime Minister @narendramodi leaves for the US to attend the 6th Quad Leaders’ Summit and address the UN’s ‘Summit of the Future’.”
Prime Minister Modi On September 21, he will attend the sixth Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by US President Joe Biden in his hometown.
The Quad brings together four countries – India, Australia, Japan and the United States – that share a commitment to work as a force for global good and support an open, free and inclusive Indo-Pacific that is prosperous and resilient. India will host the Quad Leaders Summit in 2025.
But Quad SummitThe Ministry of External Affairs said that in this meeting the leaders will review the progress achieved by the Quad in the last year and set the agenda for the coming year to assist the countries of the Indo-Pacific region in meeting their development goals and aspirations.
The first Quad Leaders Summit was held in 2021 in virtual format. The second Quad Leaders Summit (the first in-person) was held in Washington, DC on September 24, 2021. The third Quad Leaders Summit was held virtually on March 3, 2022.
The Fourth Quad Leaders Summit (Second In-Person) was hosted by Japan on May 24, 2022. The Fifth Quad Leaders Summit (Third In-Person) was held on May 20, 2023 in Hiroshima, Japan.
During his US visit, Prime Minister Modi will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 23. The theme of the summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called this summit a ‘once in a generation UN Summit’. The ‘Summit of the Future’ is an important milestone in the history of the United Nations as it will enter its 80th year of existence in 2025.
A large number of global leaders are expected to attend the summit. Prime Minister Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders during the summit and discuss issues of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister will address a gathering of the Indian community in New York on 22nd September.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi will also interact with CEOs of leading US companies to promote greater cooperation between the two countries in cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology.
He is also expected to interact with active think tanks and other stakeholders in the India-US bilateral landscape. The Prime Minister has previously addressed the UNGA four times for High Level Week (HLW) in 2014, 2019, 2020 (virtually) and 2021.
India and the United States have a comprehensive global strategic partnership, covering almost all spheres of human endeavor, inspired by shared democratic values, convergence of interests on various issues, and vibrant people-to-people contacts.
India and the United States conduct the most extensive military exercises, which are growing in size and complexity.
Important bilateral exercises include Yudh Abhyas (Army), Vajra Prahar (Special Forces), Malabar (Navy), Cope India (Air Force) and Tiger Triumph (all three services). Red Flag, RIMPAC, Cutlass Express, Sea Dragon and Milan are some of the multilateral exercises in which both countries participate.
The United States is also India’s largest trading partner, with total bilateral trade in goods and services expected to reach US$190.1 billion by 2023, according to US Census data.
Foreign Secretary Misri on Thursday said the Quad event will provide an opportunity for PM Modi to thank both US President Biden and Japanese PM Kishida for their leadership.
Misri’s remarks came during a briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States for the upcoming Quad summit.
At a press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “We are looking at a Quad joint statement, a Quad fact sheet, and the Cancer Moonshot event will have its own separate fact sheet. As you probably understand by now, this is also going to be a kind of farewell event for President Biden and Prime Minister Kishida of Japan. And so, the Quad event provides an opportunity for the Prime Minister to thank both leaders for their leadership in giving momentum and importance to the Quad partnership.”
Misri said this will be an opportunity for meaningful talks between Prime Minister Modi and Biden, where they will have the opportunity to review the comprehensive global strategic partnership between New Delhi and Washington. Prime Minister Modi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Japan and Australia.
