Prasanna Vithanage’s ‘Paradise’ screened in Mumbai


The lead actors of the film attended a special screening of ‘Paradise’ in Mumbai Roshan Mathew And Darshana RajendranNotable guests including Director Featuring actors like Jasmeet K Reen (Darlings), Amit Masurkar (Newton), Prosit Roy (Pari), Suresh Triveni (Tumhari Sulu), Anubhuti Kashyap (Doctor G), Shazia Iqbal (Bebaak), and Swanand Kirkire, Sharib HashmiGeetanjali Kulkarni, Heeba Shah and Shreya Dhanwanthary.
The award-winning film directed by Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vinthanage is set for a pan-India and worldwide release on June 28, 2024.
Paradise won the Kim Jiseok Award for Best Film at the Busan International Film Festival. It is produced by Newton Cinema and presented by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. The film has won three international awards for Best Film and received nine nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Editor.
The film also stars Shyam Fernando and Mahendra Perera. The film’s stellar team includes Rajeev Ravi as the cinematographer, Sreekar Prasad as the editor, Tapas Nayak as the sound designer and K. as the music director.
‘I was eagerly waiting to attend the Mumbai premiere’
The film won several accolades at international film festivals and was ranked among the top 10 films at the FIPRESCI India Grand Prix 2023. Sri LankaParadise is the story of a tourist couple’s vacation and their struggles with social, personal and internal challenges. Through their experiences, they uncover an objective truth about human nature.
Film producer Prasanna Vithanage says, “I was eagerly waiting to attend today’s premiere but unfortunately I got stuck in Sri Lanka for release work. I would like to thank all my friends who joined today’s event. The lead characters of the film are from Mumbai and I hope this film will create a special bond with the people of this colourful, wonderful city.”

Roshan Mathew, the lead actor of the film says, “I am glad that the film has come back to Mumbai after being screened at MAMI. Everything has been good so far and I hope the positive responses continue after the release as well.”
Lead actress Darshana Rajendran says, “It’s a great feeling to be in another city and show my film to people whose work I admire and have worked with. We have a great group of supporters watching the film, and it’s great.”
Paradise receives great reviews
Newton movie director Amit Masurkar says, “It is a powerful film with amazing performances. The way the story progresses is remarkable. Just wait till the end – only then will it really impact you.”
Anubhuti Kashyap says, “The film was grand and intense, yet simple and relatable. The acting was superb, and I loved all the actors, even the supporting ones. The policeman in particular was charming whenever he was on screen. The direction was excellent. The ending was a bit shocking and left me with questions, but overall, the film was beautifully made.”
Suresh Triveni, director of Tumhari Sulu, says, “I am surprised. The ending was unexpected and the film made me think. I wonder if I am pushing myself enough as a filmmaker. Every aspect of the film was inspiring and the actors were excellent. This film will stay in your mind forever and more people should watch it, especially when the art of filmmaking is struggling. Such films need to make a comeback.”
Actor Sharib Hashmi says, “I missed some parts of the film, but what I saw was very engaging and beautifully made. Darshana and Roshan’s performances were top notch. I’m definitely going to watch it again.”
Director Prosit Roy of the film Pari says, “Honestly, I am at a loss for words. It is a very beautiful film, it is full of nuances and though the story seems simple on the surface, its beauty comes to the fore as you delve deeper. The acting, direction and writing are next level and touch your heart. It is a fantastic film.”
Actress Geetanjali Kulkarni says, “This is a very important film for today’s time, which reflects our lives and our selfishness as a society. The story is heart-wrenching and teaches us to introspect. It is beautifully filmed with a great cast and the story is big but also very personal. People should definitely watch this film.”
Swanand Kirkire says, “Fantastic, spectacular, spectacular. It is so layered that I have no words. Roshan, Darshana and everyone have done a great job. This is a must watch.”
