John Corbett He has been an actor for over three decades, but the life of an actor is not for him.

The “Sex and the City” star opened up about his frustrations on David Spade and Dana Carvey’s “Fly on the Wall” podcast last week, saying he regrets his decision to become an actor.

“Look, I’m in the fourth quarter of a football game now, in life and in showbiz. That’s just a fact,” Corbett said. “So I can tell you now that I made the wrong decision in my life.”

He added, “When I was a kid, I hated being told what to do by somebody in authority. So, I decided to do something that would serve my work life my whole life, which is, ‘Man, stand here, say this, wear this, look this way, say this fast, get your hair cut this way.'”

Corbett received praise for her work in shows such as “Northern Exposure,” He has appeared in films such as “Sex and the City” and “The United States of Tara,” but admitted he felt creatively limited.

“And as an actor, in my position, which is always second, third, it’s not like that… I’m not collaborating with the writers,” he said, adding, “You feel like a puppet.”

He added, “Have you ever sat in a doctor’s office waiting room for an hour and you’re thinking, ‘What the fuck?’ For me, making a movie is like that, because I’m not a part of any creative process.”

The 63-year-old fully admits he sounds “ungrateful,” but it’s the lack of creative input in most of his work that frustrates him.

“All I’m saying is, I’ve made a lot of money. I live in a beautiful house. Every restaurant I go to, people come up to me. I’m friends with the world,” he said. “But as far as having a fulfilling creative working life, I haven’t written one corny line. I haven’t written one joke to make people laugh. So it’s been unsatisfying on that level.”

He added, “You know, there were some good moments here and there, but most of that time is just sitting around and they’ll knock on your door and say, ‘Hey, we need you to come back and say this again.’ And for me, man, that’s a very boring life.”

“Anybody who has never been on a film set, if they ever came to visit any of us for two days, just two of those 14 hours, you’d say, ‘I never want to come here.’ (It’s) like watching paint dry,” “my big Fat Greek Wedding” Star added.

Corbett has been dabbling in country music for years, telling Billboard in 2006 ahead of his debut album, “It’s not like I learned to play guitar last year and started writing songs and thought, ‘Oh, I’ll make a record now.'”

But that medium didn’t help him either, as he revealed on the podcast that his breaks in between acting gigs left him wanting more work.

He said the “phone will never ring” for opportunities in 2022.

“During that whole year, how did I express myself, other than playing guitar and piano at home?” Corbett said.

The “Parenthood” star said he’s ultimately content staying at home with his longtime partner and Wife, Bo Derek,

“I’ve gotten to the point in my life now where I love being home with Bo and the dogs,” he said.

Corbett and Derek have been together since 2002, and they officially married in 2020, keeping the news private until the following year.

Corbett said he does not travel for films: “At this point in my life, that’s all I do… If something looks really fun, I say yes. But then I get there two days later and say why did I say yes?”

“And just like that” The star spoke highly of his co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, saying, “If I had to act with just one person for the rest of my life, it would be her. There’s something about this girl… she’s the best.”

“And apparently I got a chance to do it again, because I did the reboot last year, and then right before the actors and writers strike, they said, ‘Hey if we get picked up would you do it again?’ And I said, ‘Sure, I’ll come in to do something. I haven’t actually heard anything since then.”

Corbett may not have been mum about his role in the HBO series’ third season, as paparazzi photos revealed he was filming alongside Parker, and possibly reprising his role of Aidan Shaw.

The premiere date for Season 3 of “And Just Like That” has not yet been announced, but the show is expected to return in 2025.
