The 80-year-old veteran journalist alleged that sources he spoke to told him that last year he warned Ron Klain, a top Biden aide who oversaw debate preparations at Camp David, that he “had a problem,” telling the Biden confidant about instances where the president “lost his train of thought” and “couldn’t get it back up.”

“There was a fundraiser where he started on stage. And then he got very stiff, according to people who were there, almost like it was a kind of stiff death,” Bernstein said. “It was about a year ago at the old Four Seasons restaurant on Park Avenue. And he got very stiff and they had to bring in a chair to do the last part of the show.”

“I think what these people are saying, and have been saying for some time, is that, ‘Yes, he seems great when we watch him, as we saw tonight. But he also has some unimaginable moments that we are very concerned about and you, Ron Klain and the first family, we need to talk about this.’ And every time that issue has been raised, they have been pushed back again and again,” he added.

Biden’s shocking debate performance has become a political storm, with a large portion of the liberal media calling for him to withdraw from the presidential race.

“Mr. Biden has been an admirable president. Under his leadership, the nation has prospered and begun to address many long-term challenges, and the wounds opened by Mr. Trump are beginning to heal. But the greatest public service Mr. Biden can perform now is to announce that he will not seek re-election,” The New York Times editorial board wrote on Friday,

However, top Democrats, including former President Obama, stand in support of Biden.

“There are bad argument nights. Trust me, I know,” Obama said in a statement Friday. “But this election is still an election between a man who has fought for ordinary people his whole life and a man who only cares about himself. Between a man who tells the truth; who knows right and wrong and tells the American people straight — and a man who lies for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and that’s why there’s so much at stake in November.”
