Keshav Maharaj is ready to talk. He says they were trying to use the surface and the wind. He said the surface was slow initially but has gotten better now. He believes the catching and outfielding were excellent. He said the boys are ready to play and hopefully they will grab it with both hands.

For South Africa, the move to start with spin from one end proved beneficial as Keshav Maharaj picked up two wickets in his opening over. Kagiso Rabada soon got into the action, resulting in the powerplay going in South Africa’s favour. In the middle phase, South Africa got a chance to build a partnership through Axar Patel, with India counter-attacking. Maharaj, Rabada, Shamsi and Nortje bowled well in that middle phase, but Marco Jansen was everywhere with his line and length. Jansen couldn’t curb the runs in the death overs, but Nortje displayed brilliant death bowling skills to restrict India under 180.

Anrich Nortje finished the innings with a wicket but India managed to score 42 runs in the final 3 overs and put 176 runs on the board. Given that they had lost three wickets inside the powerplay, India would achieve this total. The Men in Blue got off to a quick start with Virat Kohli hitting three boundaries off Marco Jansen. However, the next 5 overs of the powerplay did not go much in their favour and they lost 3 wickets. Virat Kohli and Axar Patel then joined forces to steady the innings. Sent in to face the spinners, Axar played his role well while Kohli picked up a single and a double. The 72-run partnership allowed India to get back into the contest and Kohli took matters into his own hands after Axar was dismissed
