5 best moments from the August 13 episode of WWE NXT

1) Wes Lee foils Joe Hendry’s attempt to challenge Ethan Page

Sarah Schreiber Attempted Interview Wes LeeBut he declined to elaborate on his actions last week. Instead, “All Ego” Ethan Page discussed potential challengers like Trick Williams and Pete Dunne.
Joe Hendry interrupted to stake his claim to the NXT Championship, but Page brushed him off and walked away. Lee then came in and superkicked Hendry. Page stole the segment with his expressive reactions, showcasing his talent for getting along with rivals and captivating the audience.
A match between Page and Hendry seemed inevitable after the TNA star’s victory with a trick over Page and Shawn Spears in July. It’s a promising idea that would attract an enthusiastic crowd.
While it’s unlikely for anyone from TNA to win NXT gold, Hendry would be the most logical choice if it did happen. Lee’s involvement cements his rise as the new top heel in NXT. It will be interesting to see how far he can climb with this new ruthless persona.

2) Charlie Dempsey beat Tony D’Angelo 2-1 to become the Heritage Cup Champion

Tony D’Angelo made an early impact with Forget About It in the second round, securing the first pinfall. After pushing D’Angelo’s shoulder into the turnbuckle, Charlie Dempsey bridged and pinned him for his first pinfall.
Ryne Sinclair then dropped D’Angelo off the second rope, allowing Dempsey to use a bridging butterfly suplex to get the second fall and win the match. It was a solid contest with an uneven pace, but entertaining nonetheless. After months of obsession, Dempsey has finally returned to the Heritage Cup.
NXT could have done more to establish Dempsey as a serious threat before the Heritage Cup returned, but Sinclair’s involvement suggests this is a turning point. No Quarter Catch CrewIf the plan is to be fully committed to moving NQCC forward, it is important for the group to keep winning. Random losses in the past have left Dempsey struggling to gain momentum.
D’Angelo had a great run with the Cup, and last week’s hints with Oba Femi could point to a focus on another championship. The main thing now is to keep Don relevant in NXT until an opportunity for a main roster call-up arises.

3) Oba Femi defeated Otis via pinfall to retain the North American Championship

With encouragement from Maxine Dupree and Akira Tozawa at ringside, Otis nearly secured the win by hitting the Worm and the Vader Bomb. However, Oba Femi Kicked out and retaliated with a massive powerbomb to secure the win.
This was by far the most entertaining match of the night. Otis consistently shines in big moments and deserves more opportunities. Although he wasn’t expected to win, he forced Femme to adapt to his style, making him work hard for the win.
The North American Champion remains the most fascinating figure in NXT, but it’s time to give him a clear opponent again. If recent hints are anything to go by, Tony D’Angelo would be a great choice for that role.

4) Chase Yu defeated Nathan Fraser and Axiom to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions

Nathan Fraser and Axiom dominated the match for much of the match, but Ridge Holland’s determination kept him in the contest. The Englishman eventually defeated Axiom with Northern Grit to win the NXT Tag Team Championship for Chase U. Chase U came to the ring and celebrated with Chase and Holland as confetti rained down on the arena.
It was an entertaining main event, although the pace felt slow due to the limited time, which led to multiple falls. However, the action stayed fast thanks to the talent involved.
The chemistry between Chase and Duke Hudson is better than Chase and Holland, but the story twist makes sense. Chase U should hold on to the gold medal for a while this time around, ideally creating a divide around the group.
Smackdown or Raw could benefit from a tag team like Fraser and Axiom, so hopefully this doesn’t lead to them splitting up. NXT is clearly trying to build excitement before moving to the CW Network, but this title change was sudden. Chase Yu needed a win after his last loss, but Fraser and Axiom won last week and lost this week, so a week of build-up felt rushed.
This could have been developed over several weeks, or even saved for No Mercy. Still, Holland proves his worth to Chase U, marking a satisfying climax to his story as Chase U’s new recruit.

5) Izzi Dame defeated Brinley Reece via pinfall

Brinley Reece showed she could match the power of Izzy Dame but struggled to cope with Dame’s powerful attack. Dame secured the win with a spin-out side slam.
This was mainly an enhancement match, designed to showcase Dame while giving Reece more opportunities than usual. While nothing special, the match served its purpose.
NXT hasn’t made much progress pushing Dame forward lately, but she’s one of the most credible women outside of the title picture. She should be looked to take the next step soon.
