“The consensus or social media might lead you to think that if President Trump came to the campuses of HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities) … that some angry mob would gather or start a riot and he would not be welcome, and clearly the sentiment in that room that day was completely the opposite,” Montgomery told Lawrence Jones.
“He was very well received. People were excited to see him. People came to support him, and of course, people were from all four institutions at the AUC (Atlanta University Center), the local HBCU community in Atlanta, and they all came to support him,” he added.

Montgomery was at the scene and shouted to him, “I don’t care what the media says about you, Mr. Trump, we support you.”
In response, Trump smiled and hugged her.
“I really appreciated that we were able to not only tell her that no matter what social media says … I know they’re trying to make us think we should hate you, but we don’t,” Montgomery said, recalling the conversation.
“Additionally, it was a learning experience for my students, as they were able to see and experience first-hand how the media can distort the perception of a person or opinion.”

“Because, like I said, to think that these students who are studying at these prestigious institutions are not smart enough to make their own decisions, so much so that they would support Trump just because he bought chicken sandwiches and milkshakes… that in itself is the most disturbing thing,” he added.
“Especially when you think about the fact that it was primarily urban media outlets that were doing everything in their power to pit other black people against these young black kids who were not hesitant to explore other options.”
A New York Times/Siena poll released last month has raised concerns among some liberal pundits that President Biden Losing black voters — historically a very Democratic voter group — for Trump.
According to new data, 23% of black voters support Trump as of February. This number is much higher than his black support in October 2020, which was 4%.
Montgomery argued that the change in the black community stemmed from Trump’s authenticity and his ability to communicate clearly about his agenda.
“They think he’s honest. They think this is somebody who, even if we don’t agree with the way he says things and the way he does things, is at least telling us what it is,” Montgomery said.
“We don’t feel like this is a snake in the grass waiting for an opportunity to bite us. This is someone telling us what my plan is. Here’s how I plan to execute it. Here’s the people involved, and here’s how you can get involved.”
“They feel more comfortable,” he added. “They really feel like it’s someone who is talking to them and not just telling them what they want to hear.”

“They put a lot of people who look like me in prison, and they’re still sitting in prison … waiting for justice, some kind of appeal,” she said. “So when it comes to what Joe Biden has done for Black America, if we look at his record as a senator, it wasn’t something that benefited us at all.”
Montgomery added, “If anything, one could argue that he devoted his entire senatorial career to disrupting black people’s way of life.”
“He didn’t want black kids to go to the same schools as his kids. He didn’t want black people to walk on the sidewalks with his mother and grandmother.”
