Tulsa, Oklahoma recently acquired U.S. copyright as the official capital of the famous Route 66, long considered a central part of the history of America’s Main Street.
Tulsa can now officially claim to be the Route 66 capital.

The commission noted that Tulsa lies along a 28-mile length of Route 66 within its city limits, bordered by the Gateway Arches to the east and west.

The group also said the official copyright will further highlight Tulsa’s prominence in the story of Route 66, and solidify its place as a city that was profoundly shaped by the road.
On June 27, 1985, after 59 years, Route 66 came to an end when the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials declared the road decommissioned and voted to remove its highway markings, according to History.com.
