Cell phone video shows some New Yorkers recognized the suspect in the horrific rape of a 13-year-old girl and held him down until police arrived about 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Christian Giovanni Inga-Landi, 25, of Ecuador entered the country illegally Police said the incident happened in 2021 near Eagle Pass, Texas.
Police say he had one arrest in Texas and a few violations in New York City before he cornered two 13-year-olds in Queens Park, led them into the woods at knifepoint, tied their hands with shoelaces and raped one of them. He allegedly stole their phones and told them to stay there for 20 minutes before fleeing.

With the help of the victims, police released a sketch of the suspect. Then a local resident spotted him on surveillance video, which was also released by police.
According to authorities, some people recognized him at a deli near Corona and pounced on him. They then held him until police arrived.

“Everybody knew who we were looking for,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney. “We were getting tips telling us the name of the criminal. They knew who he was. They had seen him on the street.”
“We saw on the bodycam video that there were at least 10 neighbors trying to do the right thing,” Kenny said.

Police said Inga-Landi was treated for minor injuries after she tried to fight off the men, who had tied her legs with a belt to prevent her from escaping.
“He tried to fight,” Flores said, adding that he has two younger sisters and an expectant daughter. “He tried to run for his life, but he couldn’t. He accepted that. He was saying, ‘OK, OK, OK. Don’t kill me, don’t kill me.'”
